What our customers say about their holidays

    • Eamonn - Verified booking

Arrived to a warm cottage with the heating on timer.

Very clean condition. Welcome goodies much appreciated. Cows in fields at back added to the rural feel. Property is described as ' serene escape amidst picturesque surroundings.' So was surprised to find the cottage is situated along a local road. While traffic is fairly light, this only makes the sudden explosion of noise from speeding cars all the more noticeable. At night, lights from cars turning left onto the road from the T-junction light up the property. As all the accommodation is at the front there is no escape from the noise and lights. All the walls and doors are painted white which gives the cottage a bleak feel. There is a TV on the wall in one room and a nice clock on the wall in another. Clock would be nicer if it had a battery in it. The settee and airchairs are the small, low and uncomfortable type. Having stayed in several Sykes holiday homes I found several things I took as basic missing. Placemats and coasters, radio, ironing board to go with the iron, side table for each seating area not just for one, full length mirror. The biggest item missing is a wardrobe. There's enough room in the family room for one. Hangers on wallpegs and on the back of the two bedrooms doors make the place feel untidy. The rear lawn is described as 'enclosed'. It isn't. There is nothing to stop children going from the back to the front parking and onto the road. Information pack could be improved with details of cooker and smart TV controls.

      The experience was beyond amazing!

Just returned from Ireland with a family of 16 plus 3 toddlers. The experience was beyond amazing! Orla and her staff were there to attend to our every need. We shopped in Macroom and cooked our own meals in their gourmet kitchen. There are 8 equally gorgeous bedrooms, all en-suite, a gigantic kitchen, dining room, family space with a gigantic fireplace. The grounds have original cottage-like outbuildings with a river running through the front of the property. The kids loved the Bell which we all couldn’t resist ringing. In the evening, cows meandered to the front of the property, mooing contentedly as we watched the sunset. There is also a formal parlor with an awesome grand piano and separate billiard room which got some use as well. About 25 minutes outside of Blarney, it was a nice drive to Blarney Castle for a day trip but we enjoyed all just hanging out together as a family, we opted to stay for an extra day just to enjoy the Castle even more. Was the highlight of my family vacation

Our stay was nothing short of magical.

Our group of 8 adults and 5 kids fit perfectly with extra room! Each area of this home was well thought out and decorated beautifully. No fighting over bedrooms as each is just as beautiful as the last. The kitchen and butlers kitchen has everything you need. The common area is large enough to accommodate our large group to eat and hang out together. We enjoyed nights in the drawing room and game room each night! The grounds are just as amazing and we even enjoyed touring the Finnvale Castle with Orla! The house is remote enough to unwind in the Irish countryside for a few days but close enough to town for groceries and exploring County Cork. Orla and Sandy are very knowledgeable about area and all that it has to offer. We had one small plumbing issue that was remedied immediately. Our family made memories to last a lifetime that we will truly treasure! Thanks Orla and her team for allowing us to stay!

Peter, the owner of Brendan's cottage, seemed like a nice man and was quick to respond whenever we had questions or problems, which we really appreciated.

That said, the cottage had lots of quirks. The most stressful quirk for us was that we were being charged for all the gas heating and electricity we used while staying in the cottage, as reflected by the meter reading. (This was mentioned in the listing, but it's so unconventional that we didn't notice/understand it when we were making our booking). We stayed for six days and only ended up paying $13, so the expense wasn't bad. However, we were very anxious during our first night or two in the cottage, before we had gotten a good estimate of how quickly our energy expenses could add up. The cottage itself was kitschy, not necessarily in a bad way. It did have spots of mold in a few places. The location was beautiful, and the garden was huge and lovely. All things considered, we were happy to move on to our next bnb when we left.

      A fairy tale

The Finnvale Castle truly feels like it’s straight out of a fairy tale of storied Irish history, laced with charm, intrigue and mystique blended tastefully with all modern conveniences. The bedrooms, kitchen and common area accommodated our group of 17 people (including 8 kids of varying ages) with ease. Great courtyard for playing or sitting outside. The surrounding grounds are beautiful and very fun to explore. Nearest grocery store is only about 20 minutes away and there is also a pharmacy just 5 minutes down the road. Orla and family are amazing; welcoming, knowledgeable and incredibly accommodating. The Finnvale Castle overall is beautifully remote, a truly special experience. We would love to stay in Finnvale again.
