What our customers say about their holidays

    • Richard - Verified booking

We stayed at Glynderi for a week in early June '23.

This was our first time staying in this part of Pembrokeshire. On arrival, the property was spotlessly clean and tidy. Internally, it is spacious and is well equipped with everything we could want. The decor throughout is bright and sea-sidey and very much in-keeping with the area. The bed (front room) was very comfortable; the bathroom has been modernised and is clean and attractive. The lounge area and dining room were perfectly presentable and comfortable and, again, both spacious. The kitchen had good space with every appliance and piece of equipment we could want. Again, spotlessly clean and a credit to the owners. Perhaps, in due course, thought could be given to updating some of the kitchen equipment and facilities, but nonetheless, we found everything to our satisfaction. The off-kitchen utility area and separate WC is a great asset to the property with good provision for recycling waste materials - a great example for others to follow! Externally, the back garden is a fabulous place to relax and enjoy a meal. Being south facing and with no tall buildings or trees in the way, the garden enjoys the sun all day. We were very fortunate to have great weather all week, so all meals bar one that we had in Glynderi were eaten outside. It is a quiet area, neighbours were friendly, and it is within easy walk of three pubs. The most local pub, being the Pen-y-bryn Arms was excellent. A nice atmosphere, friendly staff, good beer and great food at a reasonable price. Well done to them. There's plenty to do and see locally: in Cilgerran; at the Nature Reserve and further afield in both coastal and inland areas. We were not stuck for somewhere to visit. All together a really good holiday for us and the accommodation at Gynderi was excellent. We would gladly return there. Our thanks to the owners for their contribution to making our holiday an enjoyable and memorable one.

Be prepared for an unauthorised payment for accidental damage upon your departure even if you have not caused it!

We just finished our holiday on 28 March and then received a phone call from Sykes Cottage on 29 March informing us of damages at our stay cottage. There were two dents in the wall and one burnt oven glove. We informed them that the damages were there upon our arrival, we had noticed them as we entered the property, but were told the owner of the property had taken photos of the damages upon our departure. We challenged to see the evidence that proves the damages were NOT there upon our arrival, but neither Sykes Cottage or the owner have provide it. As of this writing they have not provided any evidence, however the burden of proof is with them. Regardless of our response to Sykes Cottage on 29 March, stating that we had noticed the damage upon arrival, we still had an unauthorised transaction of £80 taken from our bank account on 1 April to effect repairs for the damage. We rang Sykes Cottage but was told that “Sykes Cottage has no control over claims if the property owner instructs them to take out payment from the ‘Good Housekeeping bond’”. Therefore Sykes Cottage had to deduct the payment from our account and advised us that “if you disagree with this resolution then please seek third party advice!” This implies that the customer is liable for any damage without need of proof and means that it is open cheque book season. We have contacted our bank to dispute this matter hoping for a fairer and more robust due diligence to be conducted over this matter. As a holiday maker, the last thing we wanted was an unjustified legal battle to deal with resulting in spoiling our holiday experience. Needless to say we will not be returning and looking into the finer legal position that the customer will find themselves in. We will not use again.

We loved the property, it was very well equipped and comfortable.

If we had any criticism it would be that an extension lead or additional socket would be handy in both the main living area and the main bedroom but these can be worked around. We also noted that the Velux windows could do with a good clean. Neither of these things affected our stay. Personally, I found the switch for the upstairs water tank a little confusing and although we expected it to be off, which it was, the positioning wasn't very clear. This was resolved for me via a YouTube video. Being only our 2nd holiday in Wales, we found Oak Tree Cottage to be a great base for the area and were able to visit a number of attractions during the week, including a dolphin watching trip, the honey farm at New Quay, the Gwili railway and the Welsh Wildlife Centre to name a few. We were also able to make use of the garden area most evenings as the sun went down. Having used both New Golden Dragon and Caffi Sgadan we would certainly recommend the latter which does great fish and chips amongst other things. Personally, I found the food from New Golden Dragon to be perfectly fine but my wife less so. Although we did not make great use of it, we did visit the general store and found that to be well stocked. We would certainly stay here again.

Really enjoyed our time at Glynderi.

It was really easy to find, instructions were perfect and we soon made ourselves at home. The living room was huge and had a lovely feel to it, a really well equipped kitchen that has every appliance you will ever need, that was perfect for breakfasts and family evening meals. Really good bathroom but could be more disabled friendly especially as it’s such a lovely bungalow. We loved the garden, a good size and well looked after, unfortunately it wasn’t fully enclosed as our dog got out a couple of times when the neighbourhood cat paid a visit, it really needs a small gate at the side. The area was very quiet and just a really restful place to visit, Cardigan bay is really close by and so easy to get to.. less than 10 minutes on one of the days, For our dog, we went to Poppit sands for its beach adventures and it was so easy to get to from here, Overall.. we really enjoyed our stay.. and would love to stay again if we go down this way again. Keep up the good work.

We really enjoyed our week staying in Glynderi.

The bungalow was very spacious, clean, comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. The garden is large and private, lots of space for a dog to chase a ball or small children to play, and as we were so lucky with the weather we were able to eat all our meals outside, and enjoy the evening sun. Our one and only concern was that the garden is bordered by a dense hedge and fencing, but not enclosed as described. The path at the side of the property has no gate, therefore an adventurous dog (like our schnoodle), or small child could easily ‘escape’ to the front of the bungalow, and then to the road! We did manage to block the path with pots etc from the garden for our stay, but a small side gate would make the garden secure. Having said that, Glynderi provides perfect accommodation with easy access to beaches, historical sites, and some lovely woodland walks in this beautiful part of Wales. We would definitely recommend a stay here.
