What our customers say about their holidays

    • Elaine - Verified booking

Beautifully appointed property, tastefully decorated and very comfortable.

We all found our beds really soft and comfortable - although a sheet had been placed between the duvet and bottom sheet, which on 3 of the beds was very crumpled up and twisted and meant having to re-make the bed. The dining chairs were the most comfortable I've ever known and meant sitting over long luxurious meals was a dream. We felt the kitchen could have been better stocked with essential equipment - there was no whisk, so whipping cream and eggs with just a fork was rather laborious! There was no ice cube making tray/container so we just filled up plastic boxes with water and once frozen, had to smash it up! There were only 6 mugs, no cups so meant having to run bowls of washing up water or putting the dishwasher on every time we had hot drinks was a bit of a waste of water! Ideally I'd recommend at least 12 to 18 mugs to allow for enough hot drinks throughout the day! When we arrived and began hunting for mugs, we found them in the dishwasher along with some other crockery, which hadn't been emptied! On the whole, we had a wonderful weekend and the weather enabled us to enjoy sitting out in the lovely garden - although, it would have been nice to have some seat cushions as the wooden chairs were very hard and a bit worn/mossy and a parasol would have been useful. The only entrance to the property had a very high step, which a couple of us less fit ladies found quite a struggle to climb up - a smaller step outside the door would make it safer and easier. Having ground floor bedroom and shower room and being so spacious inside, makes the property ideal for a wheelchair user, if only the entrance could be re-jigged - just a thought for the future as it is so difficult to find suitable properties for the physically challenged! A lovely holiday cottage and we would go back if the entrance was easier!

A Hidden Gem – Tranquil, Romantic, and Perfect for Nature LoversWe’ve just returned from our third stay on the Belchamp Hall estate, this time in the beautiful Mill House, and we’re already planning to go back. Nestled at the end of a private road in a serene and secluded setting with a pond and a wonderful view across countryside, the home offers complete peace and quiet – the perfect escape from the hustle of daily life.We personally met the owners who made us feel very welcome and advised us not to hesitate to contact them if we needed anything. The property is immaculately maintained and tastefully decorated, with every comfort thoughtfully provided. They also left a very generous welcome pack, a basket full of quality foodstuffs including delicious bread, croissants, breakfast cereal, butter, milk, as well as coffee (including Nespresso pods), tea, etc. - more than enough to avoid a trip to the supermarket as soon as you arrive. Another generous gesture is that you can also help yourselves to extra firewood for the wood stove - if you use it - at no extra cost. What makes it truly unforgettable, though, is the romantic ambiance and stunning natural surroundings. The estate offers walking trails right from the doorstep – we took our daughter’s dog for walks through woodland, open fields and along tranquil streams - she loved it!Far from any traffic or city lights, it’s rare to find a place that feels so private, yet so welcoming. If you're looking for a romantic retreat where you can truly unwind, reconnect, and enjoy the beauty of nature, this is it. Absolutely idyllic – we can’t recommend it highly enough.

Lovely new built semi detached bungalow, next to a farm and with open views over the countryside.

Located in a quiet location on the outskirts of the small village of St Osyth and in easy driving distance from numerous interesting places to visit. Owners greeted us on arrival and were very friendly and helpful, and there were a few tasty welcome gifts. The cottage itself was lovely and warm (we stayed in January) and was immaculately clean. The Kitchen was well equipped with everything you needed. Bathroom was walk in shower with nice soft towels. Living area had large smart tv and large sofa, nice for cold evenings in (we thought a pouffe or foot stool would be a nice addition to put your feet up whilst relaxing). Large patio doors open out onto a small patio area with table and chairs and nicely planted garden which would be lovely in the better weather. Parking is directly in front of the food which makes unloading and loading the car very easy. Plenty of lovely places to visit….. Harwich historic harbour, The Naze for walking, wildlife and history, Brightlingsea and Frinton nice for a seaside walk. Clacton had nice bits but pier just a giant amusement arcade and avoid Walton the Naze pier at all costs ! Would definitely visit again, thank you for a lovely stay.

We were very impressed with the standard of facilities, the spaciousneess, and comfort and the warmth of welcome.

We had not expected the tea, coffee, fruitbowl etc and everything we could want was there. St Osyth itself, just a short walk away, has a variety of services, and there are all sorts of interesting places nearby. Being on the farm was fascinating with different shapes and sizes of equipment coming and going, but not spoiling the tranquility in any way. It is well placed and accessible to be a centre for exploring that part of the country and a walk to the coast is a pleasant way to spend an afternoon with a variety of routes depending on intrepidness. We would thoroughly recommend a stay. (Publish only with agreement of the owners)

I enjoyed my stay at Vine Cottage, The place was warm and had everything I needed to be comfortable.

I didn't want to go home. I've been trying to arrange to come back in December. The owners (Dan and Juliet) always have the best interests of the guests at heart and are always on call if I need anything, even if it isn't house-related. Dan was so kind to give me helpful advice on my car whilst I had engine trouble. The whole week was a magical stay and I'm so glad to have visited such a wonderful village. The people are so welcoming. I would highly recommend staying at Vine Cottage, it's a good price, nice and private for a peaceful getaway. Thank you, Dan and Julliette, Hope to see you again very soon. :)
