What our customers say about their holidays

    • Kevin - Verified booking

A lovely looking cottage in a superb quiet location with bags of character, lovely wood burner and generous supply of logs, but needs a good spring clean and some maintenance on it.

We understand it’s an old property and it’s unlikely things will be straight and smooth; and we love all that character, but it’s no excuse for cleanliness and what looks like poorly executed DIY. I won’t list everything but for example dusty radiators, dead flies in the wall lights and windows, grotty sealant around the shower screen, white stuff stuck on the walls, dirty sockets and light switches….and the fixtures and fittings, gaps around sockets, bedside cabinets that fall apart and aren’t painted properly, architrave that doesn’t reach the floor, bathroom sinks with wood wobbling behind them (you can actually see in the pics) and that you can get your hand behind, bedroom lights that don’t work, paint on unpainted surfaces, fitted sheets that are way too big… I did feedback to the owner on the first evening and they said they’d talk with the housekeeper, but a phone call or even a visit wouldn’t have gone amiss. A few days in here fixing things and it would be a beautiful place.

The Coach House really was a perfect place for us to stay and have some rest and relaxation.

It was spotlessly clean, comfortable and warm and had everything we needed. Debbie and Nigel were close by in case of any problems but we didn't see them to talk to until our last day. They are lovely and friendly and provided some lovely buns, flowers and milk for our arrival. We had some lovely walks into the Wear valley, drove into Stanhope for the butchers and bakers and greengrocers. We had a coffee by the open fire in the Vicars Pele tower in Corbridge. It was freezing outside so it was great to find somewhere to warm up. Our dog was more than welcome in there and was given a few biscuits. We liked the bookshop opposite the cafe too. Information on both places, and more was provided by Debbie before our arrival. I can't fault anything and I can't think of anything that could be improved either. I have recommended the Coach House to family and Friends already. We had the best week - thank you!

This was a very easy experience.

The photos were accurate. Once booked the host contacted me which was a nice touch. A warm welcome was given by the lovely scones with milk and tea and coffee and eggs being provided. I also enjoyed the lovely posy of fresh flowers. The property was lovely, great log burner and one of the comfiest sofas I've ever sat on! The bedroom was a good size and the bed was also very comfortable. A few steps away from the cottage the lovely small town of Stanhope which had a healthy buzz about it and a few nice wee shops and places to eat and drink. Everything had been thought of when equipping this cottage and I appreciated it a lot. I would recommend to anyone thinking of going to this area and thank you to my host, Mark, good job! :-)

We had the loveliest time away here.

Nigel and Debbie were so warm and kind, especially to our dog. This impacted our stay, we felt really welcomed and grateful for their kindness. Nice hosts make for a nice stay! The property itself is lovely and safe as it’s slightly tucked away from the main road, it had everything we needed for a week stay including some very thoughtful flowers, cakes and milk on arrival. We loved the garden so much with beautiful views over the village and fields onward. The surrounding areas are all very lovely too and we were surprised how dog friendly they were, our dog was able to join us in most charity shops and spaces which was a bonus. We would definitely recommend staying here and if we return to the North, would absolutely stay again.

This is a great cottage situated in the centre of Stanhope (but away from the main road), only minutes from the excellent selection of shops and pubs.

There are lots of great walks right from the doorstep, including the excellent Ashes Quarry just a couple of minutes walk away. The cottage is well maintained and nicely decorated. On entering, there is a small hallway, with space to hang coats. The large lounge was comfortable, with a nice big sofa and good sized TV. The kitchen had everything I needed, including things like teabags, sugar, salt & pepper etc. The main bedroom was nicely furnished, with a good bed and sufficient storage space. The bathroom had a bath tub (which is a big plus for me), the only drawback being the rather small wash basin, which I found a little awkward to use. I very much enjoyed staying here, and would certainly return.
