What our customers say about their holidays

    • Beverley - Verified booking

We had a lovely stay at The Folly.

It was a last minute decision to book. The grounds are beautiful and you kindly have free run of them. The car parking is off road. You need to close the large wooden gate each time as the owners have a dog (who will come and visit you. Very sweet). You then walk the length of the garden to the Folly at the end. It is small but every bit of space is utilised. The spiral staircase could be an issue for some but you know this when you book. Plenty of hanging space in bedroom but getting suitcases upstairs is a challenge! The nearest neighbour is not the owner's house but another. Not much is open in the village of Woebley which is 30 mins walk on roads or 45 mins by fields. Internet unfortunately was non existent so Smart TV was pointless. May have been a blip. TV tiny. There are DVDs and a built in player. Good selection of books and games. Lovely welcome basket of home made bread and jam and fresh eggs plus more. We received a warm welcome from Jim and were offered early check-in. Very handy as we were already in the vicinity. The bed has a lightweight duvet. Towels were very stained. There is a bbq in the summer house which is also yours to use and provision of an area with sun loungers. 2 induction cooking rings were efficient and combi/microwave. Couldn't be bothered to read the lengthy instruction booklet for that! Fridge with small freezer compartment. We like to cook when away and as pubs were rarely open glad we had that option. We did have a drink at the Salutation and in Dilwyn village but no food on offer. You can book to eat out locally in the evening if places are open. Plenty of National Trust and gardens in the area. Would we stay again? Possibly. It was a novelty but we really like more space on holiday. Thank you for a lovely break.

The Folly is an amazing, quirky and romantic place to stay in a beautiful setting.

It certainly has the WOW factor. It is very bijou, with a high standard of furnishings and fittings. The design and planning has been  well thought out to utilise every inch of space. The outside area is secluded and perfect for al fresco dining. We were lucky enough to have some hot weather so we had breakfast and dinner on the terrace and used the barbecue one evening. The shelter in the garden is perfect to catch the last rays of sun. Apparently the inspiration for the building came from a visit to Portmerion in North Wales. It was originally built as a writer's retreat for a well-known garden designer to write his books whilst overlooking the peaceful rill and garden. We received a very warm welcome from our hosts and nothing was too much trouble. The patio in front of the Folly is planted with edible plants that we were invited to pick and use. On arrival we received a welcome basket of delicious homemade spelt bread, homemade damson jam, milk, biscuits, butter, olive oil and local cheese. There are plenty of places to visit in the surrounding areas. Nearby Weobley is a charming village. We would wholeheartedly recommend this property and would definitely return. We have stayed in a lot of self catering properties all over the country and abroad, and this is one of our favourites. Thank you to Annie and Jim for making us so welcome.

The spiral staircase is not for everybody, although it is noted on your website, it does not indicate that it must be one of the tightest spirals that are legally considered safe.

many adults either sight impaired or overweight would not get upstairs safely. Ditto the bathroom which is so small that when you sit on the seat the lid closes on to your back, the sink is a tiny corner sink making it impossible for a man to shave if he doesn’t use an electric razor. The cooking facilities are adequate for breakfast- but nothing further - the combi oven is at floor level so unless you like getting on to your knees to use an oven it is less than ideal. The 2 eating places in Weobley were closed Monday and Tuesday evening, so with poor cooking facilities, it was more than disappointing. All of these points should be made clear on your website. The Folly is quirky and attractive. The couch was comfy, ditto the bed. Jim , the owner , gave us a friendly welcome and his wife, Annie sent us friendly texts. We expected it to be ‘compact’, but not to come with such important negatives. A pleasant setting does not make up for the negatives. We would not return and could not recommend. We are in our 60’s, slim and active. What would happen if visitors arrive who are neither slim nor agile, whatever their age? We have wasted our holiday money and feel that others. Should not be put in the same situation. The price was paid for nights for such drawbacks was inadequate and misleading.

This is by far the best property we’ve stayed in for our dog.

We were so impressed at how much space there was. This property is all enclosed so can let the dog off the lead. We had a wonderful time. Loved sitting in the garden letting the dog and our little girl play. The views are amazing so relaxing and tranquil. The finer details with this property is just on another level. There was milk in the fridge, a little hamper of food such as eggs and cereals. There was a high chair for our daughter and also a carry cot so we didn’t need to bring ours. Everything we needed was right there, even board games which came in handy when it started to rain. The property is situated close to the nearest town which you could walk to but we drove. We visited the monkey forest as well which was about 15 minutes away, worth a visit. I honestly can’t fault it just wish we had booked for longer. We will definitely look at booking again in the near future. Loved everything about our holiday so thank you very much.

You can tell the owners have put a lot of love and effort into making the place feel high standard. No cheap furniture, everything was high quality and it showed and was appreciated. Bed was super comfy and the bedding was lovely. Roll top bath was a joy to relax into. We received a lovely warm welcome and everything felt personalised down to providing us with a personal list of things we might enjoy based on our conversation we had about what we like to do. Received fresh flowers and wine on arrival and thank you for the special touch at the Angel for our celebrations. And a great meal choice too! We stayed 3 nights here, everything felt peaceful and away from it all. And I think they have been really creative with how they’ve designed the property. I would recommend to others. Thank you Anya. You made it a lovely stay.
