What our customers say about their holidays

    • Elizabeth - Verified booking

Kits Cottage is in a lovely location with beautiful scenery.

If you want peace and quiet and amazing views, this is the perfect place. All you hear is bird song, and see the sheep, horses and occasionally a fox strolls by. You can see the sea from the bedroom (fight for the left hand side of the bed!!) and our favourite spot is the seat in the garden. Just perfect, even in October. We enjoyed sitting here with a glass of wine and a book after our days out. A little table would be nice! This appears to be a new holiday cottage, certainly for Sykes but maybe to the holiday rental market. It has been recently decorated and has new curtains, bed linen, shower curtain etc. The lounge furniture is very comfortable. The heating and hot water are very efficient, but it would have been nice if at least the water was switched on for arrival. There are still some areas for improvement, but it is great value for money, especially for a family. We really appreciated having a washing machine, and the views from the washing line are the best ever! There are lots of good quality coat hangers, enough toilet rolls, washing up liquid, tea towels etc. Internet was fine, but our phones only worked in the garden. For bird lovers, this cottage is ideal, as not only do you have birds in the garden, but you can see the estuary, too. We saw Dunnock, Great tit, Wren, Curlew, Rook, Jackdaw, Robin, Carrion crow, Hooded Crow, Jays and Pied wagtails. Our Merlin App identified Siskin, short eared owl and Redwing. Maybe put bird feeders in the lower garden visible from the cottage – we would have happily bought nuts etc! Kitchen equipment may need reviewing. Larger sharp knives, better saucepans with lids. Table legs need tightening, it’s a bit wobbly at the moment. Maybe consider a guest book for feedback, and more tourist information. We would definitely return, and we would recommend. The cottage is comfortable and cosy, but its main selling point is the location and the views. We had an amazing week visiting beautiful places, but coming home to peace and beautiful views was the highlight.

      Wow! Where do I begin?

On arrival we were greeted by the lovely owners who gave us a guided tour around the property, they were very helpful and explained how everything worked and where everything was (ie. towels and so on..). Very well equipped kitchen will all the modern appliances you could wish for! Everything has been thought of down to the finest detail, board games, beach towels, bath robes, dvds, books and so much more! The extra plus it’s dog friendly. The hot-tub is amazing and is situated so you can see the mountains and the portsalon bay (just breathtaking!), the garden is really big for kids to play in and there is also a outside seating areas and bbq. There’s a bar and restaurant within walking distance of the cottage so you don’t need to organise a taxi! The bar is lovely and cosy, they also welcome dogs and boast beautiful views looking out over the bay, a added bonus for sports fans is they have BT and skysports. The restaurant offers and variety of foods and its delicious, the owner is very welcoming and you may even catch him in the bar the odd evening for a chat and some craic. If needed there is a local supermarket that provides the essentials down the round a few miles or you could make a short trip to Lidl which is 15mins away. Highly recommend!!! We are already planning our next trip. The Hodson’s/Nixon family

The property is not to a standard to give a comfortable winter break, the temperature in the living area was only 16c .

If the oil fired central heating on its high setting used 1 litre per hour, oil is charged at €1 per litre which is 27+% over its actuall cost . All the heat was sucked up the open fire chimney. We used 60kg of coal , 5 baskets of peat and 1 bag of logs. Total cost of heating €81 for 6 days to attain at temperature of 18c at the end of the 6th day. This issue was exasperated by a draft around the double bedroom window, no seal around the loft space doors in the upper bedroom and no flap valve on the toilet extractor fan . All heat was lost if you opened the front door because there was no porch. A hot tap was not fitted on the left hand side , good job none of us is blind ( Europe Standard) . A sink was loose on wall , and the hot water tank had no insulation at all. I also think the bed quilts were not winter tog , their was not one sharp piece of cutlery. Dust in the corners and cobwebs all over. Bed room lay out was very poor, I'm sorry there is no finesse or care visible on this property.

Myself and my wife stayed in kit's cottage last week for 3 nights.

Felt at home as soon as we walked in the door. The location is lovely, with mixed woods all around and a great view over the estuary from the garden bench. It's a great base for exploring the south of Donegal. It's also in a great location for hill walking. We did some of the Drum loop walk on the Friday after the rain stopped. Then on Saturday we did the sliabh Leigh loop walk, up over the one man pass and back along the fantastic new rejuvenated pathway. Stopped off for a cold Guinness in the rusty mackerel before completing the loop. Overall we had a great stay and intend returning. The only problem we had was that there was no companion set to clean out the log burner. Also a coffee pot, percolator or similar would be of benefit to any cofficinados staying. We had our own with us, so no bother with fresh coffee. Thanks for the loan of the lovely cottage for a few very enjoyable days. Peadar MacMillan - baile atha cliath - Dublin

We were absolutely delighted with this property.

The real selling point is the living area which has huge space and fabulous views. The outside area is also beautiful with lovely furniture for dining outdoors when weather allows, in addition to a beautiful lawn. They have added 2 swings which were great fun for our 4 and 1 year olds. They had all the facilities that you would need for a nice holiday. Therr are gorgeous beaches within walking distance and we got to spend a fabulous day on the beach when the sun shone. One point visitors should note is that the local restaurants are not open Monday to Thursday until june (at the earliest) and the Pierside is only doing takeaway Friday and Saturday in May. We chose this house because it had local facilities for meals, so this was a disappointment. It was a small blip om what was a fabulous holiday. I would highly recommend this accommodation
