    Tenterden Holiday Cottages

The town of Tenterden stands on the edge of the remnant forest of the Weald and is known as ‘The Jewel’ of the area. Overlooking the valley of the River Rother, the town boasts several large conservation areas, long-distance walking and cycling routes, a wealth of architecture and a fascinating history.

A typical town surrounded by Kent countryside, the centre features green spaces and a high-street full of quirky independent retailers. Those in search of unusual finds will love the range of books, gifts, crafts and local fare on offer. Tenterden is residence to a variety of Georgian and Victorian houses, blending stucco and brick alongside traditional Kent tile. To learn more about the region’s architecture, visit the town’s museum or take a tour of the Kent & East Sussex Railway. Before retiring to your Tenterden holiday cottage, you can nip by the local vineyard’s bar for a glass of wine to unwind.

Here at Snaptrip, our customer service team are always available via phone or email to help you find the right place for your break – and with thousands of properties on the site, we understand it’s a big choice to make. What our customers say about their holidays

    • Stefano - Verified booking

Harbourne Oast is an absolute gem nestled in the Kent countryside, with beautiful views in every direction and a gorgeous pond with 4 delightful ducks and a school of fish.

It is conveniently located near to Tenterden, which is a charming market town and there are plenty of places to visit nearby, including Camber Sands, which is only a 1/2 hr drive. From the moment we arrived our hosts made every effort to ensure we had what we needed to enjoy our stay. Everything about the facilities has been well thought through. As a family of 10 - 4 kids (ages 1-8) 4 parents and 2 grandparents - we wanted somewhere that could support differing needs. The Annexe or “Grannexe”, was a particularly excellent feature. Allowing grandparents a haven from the noise of the kids, while being a destination of choice most mornings tor the little ones to acquire a second breakfast! Great memories have been made and will be cherished for many years to come. A few of words of caution, this is an historic house, so comes with many of the features one might expect, such as some very creaky floorboards and doors. Also, if you are taller than 5.11, watch your head on some of the low door frames! For any older guests and/or those with mobility issues, the annexe is perfect. Beautifully presented and perfectly apportioned. The main house proved a little difficult for my mother to access at first, however, Matthew swiftly constructed a wooden step to allow her to be able to join us for family meals in the fantastic kitchen and dining areas! This was hugely appreciated and indicative of the lengths to which our hosts went to ensure we were comfortable. One final note, the 9am checkout (due to COVID) is a little challenging, so would recommend packing the night before! The pictures online really don’t do it justice, has it to be seen. All in all would highly recommend!

Last minute booking for 4 families to get together.

Everyone was happy with the property and surroundings. Property is clean and with extra cleaning due to pandemic. The communication to the owner was nice and easy! Plenty of places to visit in the surrounding area, and its big enough for you to stay in and chill out. We managed to do sky watching during our stay, we saw shooting stars and the Milky-way! This was really an additional to our holiday! My hubby and I get to stay at the Annex, it is not linked to the main barn, but not far away! Its good to have our own little space with quiet and peace. Most of beds are really comfortable. One thing I need to mention is that we were not left enough coffee capsules, only 10. Yes, there are some instant coffee sachets, could be nice to supply more capsules, at least one per person per day. Nor enough dish washer tablets, or washing machine detergent supplied. They are minor, but would be perfect if we would not have to buy our own.

Thank you for a very enjoyable two weeks. We have been delighted with your property. The beautiful, peaceful location is perfect. The tasteful and quality fittings and furnishings have made this feel like a real home and the vase of sweet peas that filled the air with their delicate perfume was a lovely welcoming touch. We compliment you on your information folders, they are well thought out and very comprehensive. You have been delightful hosts, thank you for the home-made rhubarb ice cream, it was delicious. We had it with blackberries that we picked on a walk. The Nutmeg in Sayers Lane serves great coffee. Ozgur, the Turkish restaurant, is excellent value, especially the Tenterden Special, 4 courses and coffee with complimentary jalapenos and olives and melon to finish. The manager is very welcoming. There is much to see around here, Hever, Chartwell and Canterbury well worth a visit.

This was a return visit for us having stayed in 2011, and it felt like coming home! The property is spotless and has everything you require, in a quiet, beautiful and peaceful setting. It is wonderful to be able to listen to and observe the birds....woodpeckers, great tits, pheasant etc...and the squirrel trying to steal the nuts! Readers Retreat is ideally situated to visit many interesting places...Sissinghurst, Great Dixter, Bodiam Castle, Scotney Castle and many vineyards to name a few. Tenterden is a 40 min walk across the fields if you wish and is an interesting well equipped friendly town with good shops and restaurants. There is also an excellent farm shop with café just up the road. We thoroughly enjoyed revisiting places and finding new ones. It was also good to see Amanda again and catch up on news, we shouldn’t leave it so long next time! We highly recommend Readers Retreat.

We had a wonderful time at the Oast.

A very characterful property with space for all and a quirky annexe too. Rooms were of a very good size with comfy beds and tv’s in most. The kitchen had everything you would need along with a well stocked welcome basket of treats along with local eggs and milk in the fridge. The lounge felt very homely and the views onto the pond were lovely. The hosts have gone above and beyond with little touches such as fragranced hand wash/shampoo/ and conditioner in the bathrooms to dishwasher tablets/kitchen roll and a selection of tea/coffee and coffee pods for the Nespresso machine. Would highly recommend this property and we look forward to returning soon. Thank you so much for allowing us to use the Oast for our annual weekend away.
