    Self-catering holidays in Somerset

From the mysterious moorlands to charming seaside towns, and from sea caves to lively cities, Somerset has so much to offer as a UK holiday destination. And what better way to experience this beautiful and varied county than a stay in a Somerset holiday cottage?

Somerset's stunning landscapes are ripe for exploring, characterised by moody moorlands, rolling green hills and rugged coastline. So whether you want to feel the sea air on your face, or wish to take a leisurely stroll surrounded by nature, there is something for you here. A trip to Somerset would also be incomplete without sampling some of the county's famous cheese and cider, so make sure you arrive hungry!

Somerset, although a rural place, can also get pretty lively. With some the country's most cosmopolitan cities within Somerset's borders, there are plenty of museums, galleries and shopping centres to explore. Plus, the county is home to one of the most famous musical festivals in the world at Glastonbury, the illuminated festival and Guy Fawkes Festival, as well as a number of comedy clubs as featured in our guide to comedy nights.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Jonathan - Verified booking

Crooks is a very cosy cottage but not cramped because the space has been well designed.

Although attached to Wavering (the cottage next door which is also a holiday rent) we heard nothing through the walls, even though the couple renting Wavering had a dog. The cottage was spotlessly clean and had all the facilities/equipment we needed. The key safe system worked well so we didn't actually meet our hosts. Crooks is set in a beautiful country area with an easily accessible end of the Mendips rising immediately behind the cottage. The road along the base of the hills runs immediately past the back of the cottage. There is very little traffic and you really don't hear it either inside the cottage or, indeed in the small garden seating area outside, so it is a very peaceful and quiet spot. Care is needed driving out of the property as the exit is onto a semi-blind bend in the road. We loved our stay and would recommend it for a quiet break in beautiful countryside. In colder months the woodburner would make the property even cosier (we didn't need it in late August/beginning September.

Such a delightful cottage, comfortable, cosy and warm enough for us and our Border Collie.

The cottage was well equipped with everything we needed for cooking and eating. After an active day out it was lovely to come back to the comfort of the cottage to chill and relax in front of the log burner, although we were lucky with the weather considering it was February and only used it a couple of times during our stay. The garden was perfect for our Collie being enclosed and safe and also for afternoon tea sat in the courtyard garden in the sun. Very handy for the 7 miles of beach at Brean and bigger supermarkets and so close to Cheddar Gorge and surrounding area. We would not hesitate to re-visit so we can explore some more. Thank you. Crooks is a lovely little cottage, it was a perfect home away from home in beautiful, peaceful surroundings.

Tracey has put together a really helpful welcome pack about the cottage, places to visit, places to eat, local walks, as well as other useful info, she is also on hand if you have any queries. Crooks is in a good location for visiting Axbridge, Cheddar Gorge, Weston-Super-Mare, Wells, all of which worth a visit. The New Inn at Cross and The Lamb at Axbridge (best fish & chips I’ve had in a long time!) serve really good, homemade pub food and are dog friendly. A lot of careful thought has gone into Crooks, I felt at home as soon as I walked through the door. I would highly recommend this property, our dog Jenny loved it too!

We enjoyed a great week in this beautiful, cosy little cottage with our 2 dogs.

The cottage is very well equipped and dog friendly with everything we could have needed during our stay. The welcome pack was gratefully received and the owners really have gone the extra mile with thoughtful touches like cosy throws and blankets, dog treats and an OS map of the area and lots of helpful information about places to visit locally and places to walk from the doorstep. The cottage is in a great location with lots of places to visit within about 15 miles so you don’t need to spend lots of time driving for a day out. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily stay again if we were in the area.

    • David - Verified booking

This is probably one of the best cottages we have ever had.

Beautifully done out, clean, well equipped, with a lovely welcome pack, and close to the attractions we were interested in visiting. The only thing we would suggest is to make it plain in the advertising that this might not be the best cottage for those with mobility problems. We had no issues, but as well as the steep path and steps leading to the property (which were mentioned) the stairs inside were also extremely steep and, with the relatively narrow treads, could prove to be a hazard for some. Once again, this wasn't a problem for us, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you!
