What our customers say about their holidays

    • Miriam - Verified booking

Shepherds View is in an amazing location with outstanding views.

The hut was as described and done to a very high standard. It had really great facilities and everything we needed for a short stay, close to the local town of Rhayader and other beautiful locations such as The Elan Valley and the Red Kite Feeding Station which was incredible. Unfortunately, there was one major issue which was the number of flies all over the outside and inside of the hut. On arrival we opened the door and were greeted by a LOT of flies and sticky fly traps were provided which made us realise it was clearly a problem. A lot of our time when at the hut was spent trying to get rid of flies which was really unpleasant and they could easily land on cups, plates etc. We couldn't leave the windows or door open during the day as they would quickly fly in which meant that the hut was very hot and stuffy. We were lucky to have good enough weather that we could sit outside and we think its likely that the flies were attracted to the heat from the hut as in the sun. There was an issue with our hot tub on the first day but had a quick response from Gemma to let us know that an engineer would be round the next day. We felt that a message or note could have been left for us so that we knew on arrival as we were quite disappointed. There was hot water in the hot tub but it was too hot to sit in for any length of time and actually enjoy. The problem was fixed the following day and the maintenance guy was really helpful despite not speaking any English. We really loved the hot tub once it was working properly. The hut was perfectly placed to view a gorgeous sunset over the hills and it was very peaceful and quiet. Overall we really enjoyed our stay in Wales and would love to visit the area again.

We had a fantastic stay over New Year's Eve.

The view from the hut is incredible and we loved spending each morning sat in the hot tub watching the red kites soar in the sky. It's a real treat to be in the middle of the countryside but have the modern luxury of Shepherd's view. It is so comfortable inside and has absolutely everything you need. Everybody involved and associated with the pods was fantastic and very helpful. When we accidentally blew a fuse in the hut (completely our fault!!), Gemma was so kind and professional on the phone and someone was over to resolve the issue in less than 5 minutes. We even met the owners Mother in Law when we accidentally drove on to her farm trying to find the place (a little on that below). She was so kind and hopped straight into her car and led us to where we needed to be. Only advice to those visiting would be to ignore the directions (which I presume are automatically generated by Sykes). Given that we were headed to a reasonably remote location, we thought it was better to use the directions than follow google maps, but the directions are useless and are just very vague directions to the postcode (which takes you to a farm slightly down the road). If you type in "Gellilas" to google maps, it will take you exactly to where you need to be. Overall, a brilliant break away and we will definitely be coming back!! It was cloudy whilst we were there but I bet the stars on a clear night are worth the return visit!

Currently there is land moving, excavation, heavy plant hire vehicles, drilling, from 7.

50 till 18.30 except Sun. Vans parked outside the hut, we never used the hot tub as it wasn't private due to the above. No welcome file for info/advice or recommendations on local restaurants or places of interest. Maintenance is required to the hut and a good clean and cutlery had to be washed before use, we've stayed in sherherds huts on several occasions in Cornwall and really love them, this one was not as good and we were very disappointed with the whole experience. We have taken photos as we think you should see for yourselves. Let me know where to send them? We live in the country and generally we have tractors, trailers etc up and down our lane, but did not expect this on a weeks holiday away from it all...I believe we should have been informed about this and given the choice to change our accommodation, as the level of work being carried out is not small, its on a huge scale and clearly has been planned and discussed in advance, way before our arrival? This trip was a gift to my Daughter on completing her degree, to chill, have a lie in and take a well earned rest, but it did not fulfil the criteria as advertised, would you sit outside and use a hot tub with all that going on outside?

We had a lovely week at Shepherd’s View.

The hut was very clean and welcoming and the owner Gemma was very helpful for anything we needed. The hut is small but laid out very well with some clever storage so plenty of room for all of our clothing and belongings. The bed folds down from the wall so has a very thin mattress making it very hard to sleep on- luckily we had an air bed we put on top and this made it very comfortable. We had a few day trips out in the local area (Elan Valley was lovely) and the local town of Rhayader had a Spar for essentials and some nice dog friendly pubs serving food. When back at the hut we spent a lot of time relaxing in the hot tub! The garden was perfect for our two dogs to run around in and there was a lovely seating area and a fire pit for the colder nights. The site was beautiful, with around 6 other huts/pods behind us, it still felt private and the scenery was stunning. They are building some hobbit houses which look amazing, the only downside to this was building work going on during the day, but this didn’t affect us too much. Would definitely recommend staying here for a relaxing break with the added luxury of a hot tub and excellent views!

I booked this holiday for me and my partner to go away for a valentines break with our dog.

I booked Shepherds View because it looked like nothing i've seen before and it was different but at the same time - very modern. The whole week was amazing from start to finish. The one thing I was a little wary of was how small it looked, but I can honestly say its a lot bigger and spacious than it might look! Its got great facilities inside, the bed is very very comfy, its modern from top to bottom and we loved it. The place itself, is so remote, if you have a dog it is ideal - There is big open fields everywhere for them to run wild! The hot tub is huge and is so nice to relax in, in the evening or the afternoon. it is very easy to use and does everything you would ask of a hot tub! The owners are so helpful, kind and also very reachable via text or phone! They were lovely to us all week. So all in all I can highly recommend this place, the other pods look stunning too, all with private hot tubs. There is a town literally 3 minutes drive down the road with everything you need, with a big Tesco and Aldi also only 15 minutes away. We will more than likely come back and fetch other members of the family too!
