What our customers say about their holidays

What can I say, just "wow"!

This place is incredible, such an eye for detail has gone in to, fantastic furnishings, bathroom and kitchen. The property is in the garden of the owners, but we didn't actually meet them once so felt very private. The hedge between the cottage and their garden has grown high enough now to provide privacy from their garden, but still lets plenty sun onto the patio. The garden is completely fenced/gated so doors can be opened up and the dog could roam free, there is a small lawn area for doggy toileting and washing line. Lots of interesting tropical plants and a full herb bed for seasoning dinner and the BBQ! The cottage is very well insulated so it can get quite warm when the sun gets on it, we tried to shut curtains when we went out to keep it at bay, but you can open massive wide doors and windows when you can back to cool it down quickly. I would recommend a top sheet is provided for the bed as the duvet was very thick and so too hot, we always travel with our own, but would be a nice touch. The water pressure is also quite slow in the shower. In terms of location, it is perfect, set in farmland away from town it's so quiet and peaceful, but only a 5-10 min drive to Porthleven and and Highburrow cliff path. Also ideal location for Lands End and Lizard penninsula. We managed to find plentry of 'secret' beaches no one else was on, even in amazing warm weather, and lots of vegan food (including numerous places selling vegan ice cream for our lactose intolerant doggy, she was beyond happy!) 10 min drive to supermarket in Helston if needed.

Our week-long retreat at Pol Glas Cabin was nothing short of enchanting, offering a serene escape into nature's embrace.

From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the stunning views that greeted us, painting a picturesque backdrop for our stay. The cabin itself was immaculately cleaned, setting the stage for a truly rejuvenating experience. The highlight of our welcome was undoubtedly the thoughtful pack awaiting us, complete with freshly baked scones, milk, tea, and even Buck's Fizz—a delightful touch that immediately made us feel at home. However, it's important to note that we found ourselves quite overlooked from the neighboring property, a detail not evident from the photos. While this didn't detract significantly from our experience, it did affect our sense of privacy at times. Additionally, while the enclosed garden provided a sense of security, we noticed that a large dog could possibly escape. Adding another foot of fencing could enhance the enclosure, especially considering the proximity to the neighboring property. One of the highlights of our stay was the hot tub, which provided a blissful retreat after a day of exploring the surrounding countryside. Relaxing in the warm waters, surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature, was an experience we'll cherish for years to come. Despite these minor considerations, our time at Pol Glas Cabin was truly unforgettable. With its stunning views, impeccable cleanliness, and thoughtful amenities, it's a sanctuary we wholeheartedly recommend to anyone seeking a tranquil escape into the beauty of the countryside.

While the property was welcoming enough and kept in a good state to which we kept it, it was smaller than it appeared through the images advertised.

The parking situation was a little tricky and we sadly damaged the underside of our car. It is advertised as dog friendly which it is however it is not secure at all so be careful letting your dogs outside, also the owners have several dogs themselves who wander down which is fair enough however we sadly have nervous and reactive dogs so caused us a few small issues but otherwise it is set in a nice location for dog walking. Sadly it wasn’t for us really and a further reason for the low rating was being charged £100 housekeeping bond when the property was left as we found it, the money was taken by Sykes without consulting us at all, we sadly had no chance to ask what the issue was and upon contacting them to ask for the images and evidence so we could try to see if there was anything that was indeed wrong that we had missed, I heard nothing back despite contacting them twice. As we cleaned the property before we left and returned everything to its proper place I was understandably upset to have been charged extra money without any explanation from the owners or from Sykes. For us it won’t be something we book again sadly, however I would say that if it is for a few days and you aren’t going to be in the property much then it’s not a bad place to stay. But it is not suitable for any larger dogs in my opinion there really isn’t enough space.

We had a fantastic week, the weather was absolutely glorious but regardless of that the property is ideal and extremely comfortable with plenty of room.

It is tastefully decorated and it's obvious the owners care. The garden around the property is small but adequate for us, plus we have two dogs and it worked well, fields easily accessible directly from the property. It is quiet and you are not overlooked in any way. I'm sure there is more positives to add but can't think immediately of all the things I loved about it. It was one of the best places we have stayed. The location whether driving or walking is ideal, its a 20-30 min walk into Porthleven, 15-20 min walk to Penrose estate (beautiful National Trust with great dog walks and access to Loe Pool and Loe Bar), 5 min drive into Porthleven (don't be surprised if you can't park in the town) but be prepared to park on the outskirts and walk in. Coastal paths accessible from there also. The town has everything you need and restaurants (good idea to book, they are excellent and popular) and shops allow dogs, which is a big deal, trust me. This is not criticism (because believe me we will visit again, fingers crossed they let us

The television rarely worked - it kept breaking up or showing error messages.

I gave up in the end. The refrigerator was set to high, which I didn't notice immediately. The freezer section defrosted and the food for the week was spoiled. Once I saw that it had been set to 8 Degrees and not 2 I was able to change it, and it worked fine after that, but too late. The hot tub required 2 people to open it. Since I was on my own...? The hook to keep the door open was broken, so the door needed to be shut or propped open to avoid it slamming. The property was very clean and comfortable. It was also warm, and the garden was excellent for a dog, with good fencing in place. Unless your dog is an escape artist you have no worries about letting it roam free in the garden. It was very peaceful and quiet with excellent views of farmland. It was a shame that the niggles did somewhat spoil the holiday, but I'm sure they can be fixed without a problem.
