What our customers say about their holidays

    • Robert - Verified booking

The cottage is beautifully furnished and very clean with fantastic views over the surrounding countryside.

There is also plenty of wildlife to watch. It is not the easiest place to find. Continue along Woodlands until you come to a left turn, turn left, continue to bottom of paved road and take left hand unpaved track, turn left at top of track through metal gates and the cottages are in front of you. The heating in the cottage is controlled by the owner and he is quite economical with it. You have to ask for the heating to be put on. Whilst I appreciate the reason for it, I did not like this aspect of my stay at all. The WIFI appears to have been sorted out. It dropped out occasionally but no major problems. There is a lot of equipment in the cottage, e.g. Sky TV, Bose sound system, DVD player and video recorder, sadly most of it does not work. This is mainly due to most of the remote controls having flat or no batteries. The Sky TV was not receiving a satellite signal so was useless. The only TV available was Freeview. There are instructions for the kitchen appliances but none in English. It is a case of trial and error. The outside area could do with a bit of TLC. Some proper garden furniture is required and the old plastic bench at the bottom of the stairs needs to go. The existing outside furniture was very dirty. We enjoyed our stay but would not return.

      Perfect for large family get-togethers

"What is not to like about Emley Woodhouse?" It was my first time renting a house like this in the UK and we were pleasantly surprised. I wanted to pick somewhere quiet, and tranquil for my parents 40th wedding anniversary and it was both those things. The challenge when your traveling with a large group, 8 adults and 6 kids is to find a place where your not on top of each other. The house is very well spaced out with lots of different areas if you wanted some quiet time. The décor is modern and the artwork is something that just makes the property. All rooms are good and spacious. One of the wow factors of this property is the garden and the walks straight from it onto the fields. Kids loved the freedom! While we were there the weather was beautiful which just made our stay there such a memorable one. We had a lovely party for my parents 40th anniversary and we wont be forgetting this house in a hurry.

The Sykes booking was simple and efficient.

The owners replied to our questions and gave suggestions on the area. On entering the quaint, historical weavers cottage built in the 1830's we thought Wow! The cottage was big enough for our party(six adults). The views were out of this world. It made us relax and chill immediately. The owners had thought of everything from advice on the local area in Golcar and further afield. The array of walks are superb. The owners thought of all the little things to begin our short break. The cottage was exceptionally clean, well loved over time and prepared for guests to a extremely high standard. The stairs are steep and therefore I would not recommend for the older generation. My daughter was impressed by the piano and my son the array of pubs close by. We all would recommend this cottage. A gem of a find in the Colne valley(age range between 24 and 55yrs).

Ginnel Corner is a character, cosy cottage.

We found it warm and comfortable and everything we needed for a weeks stay was provided. The views from the cottage across the valley are stunning and the cottage is very quiet even though it is in the heart of Golcar. There is a Co-op, a butcher's, a post office and a pub and restaurant within a couple of minutes walk. In addition there's an excellent farm shop (Bolster Moor) within a few minutes drive. We found the kitchen rather small as we prefer to buy local produce and cook rather than eating out, but it was adequate for a weeks stay and was reasonably well equipped. You can park on the roadside outside the cottage but there are steps down to the cottage so loading/ unloading the car is a bit of a chore - especially as we arrived in snow! We enjoyed our stay in Ginnel Corner and would recommend it.
