    Holiday Cottages in Snowdonia

Snowdonia National Park has so much to offer, from stunning natural landmarks to quaint and picturesque villages, as well as, of course, the majestic peak of Mount Snowdon, which you can actually scale by railway if you don’t fancy the walk! This amazing region is perfect for a cottage holiday and you’ll find some stunning holiday cottages in Snowdonia, whether you’re looking for a spacious lodge for large groups of people, or something small and cosy for a romantic escape.

If you’re looking for a relaxing and hassle free holiday, where you maintain complete control over everything, then you can’t beat a cottage holiday. Self-catered accommodation that’s full of home comforts, Snowdonia holiday cottages have all the ingredients for an unforgettable break in the countryside including some really amazing locations, close to beautiful towns and villages, hiking trails and cycling paths.

What to see on your Snowdonia cottage holiday

Snowdonia National Park is, of course, home to the tallest mountain in Wales, Snowdonia. The climb isn’t too challenging, but you’ll definitely feel a sense of achievement when you reach the top! If you don’t fancy the arduous climb you can actually reach the top via Snowdon Mountain Railways, is actually the only rack and pinion railway in the whole UK.

This beautiful National Park is home to some really stunning towns and villages. Certainly one of the most unique is the village of Portmeirion. Built in an Italian style, visiting Portmeirion is like visiting the Mediterranean (admittedly it helps if the sun’s out!) and is well worth stopping by if you’re in the area. Portmeirion was famously the setting of the hit ‘60s science fiction show The Prisoner, and with its idiosyncratic style it’s easy to see why.

Planning some adventuring whilst on holiday in Snowdonia? Then check out our guide to Cave Exploration in the UK, which includes the hidden world beneath the mountains of Snowdonia.

As well as charming villages and beautiful scenery, Snowdonia is steeped in history. Slate minding was one of the biggest industries in the area, and while the mines and quarries have now closed, many have been converted into fascinating museums, such as the National Slate Museum at Gilfach Ddu.

If you’re looking to holiday in the beautiful region of Snowdonia, you’ll find lots of great holiday cottages in Snowdonia to choose from, from charming former mining cottages to larger spacious modern properties filled with home comforts.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Olivia - Verified booking

Lovely stay at this cosy house.

The owner was responsive to initial enquiries and also throughout our stay. The property is in a fairly rural location but just a short drive from Betws-Y-Coed and surrounding areas. The access, which someone else mentioned in a previous review, was a bit bumpy and difficult for our campervan but we managed it and on the last day of our stay the owner was doing lane maintenance so future guests shouldn’t have a problem. The house itself is very cute, with a games room and a spacious living room. It is obviously an old property which comes with its share of quirks and issues, but nothing which detracted from our experience. We had a fire going every evening which kept the place cosy, and the blankets and quilts provided meant we were very warm in the night. The bathrooms were spotless, the showers hot and the kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans and all the utensils you might need. Some constructive criticisms: the second shower (over the bath) should have a shower curtain as you can easily flood the place when using it! The bottom right hob switches itself on continuously even when not in use (as soon as you flip the power switch for the oven and cooker) which is dangerous so should be looked into. The living room fire has quite a small fireguard around it and on one evening sparks flew over the top onto the carpet. We put them out straight away but we were concerned what would have happened if the dog had been lying there. I would suggest putting a higher one in place. Finally, the towels provided - although lovely and soft - were all the same colour and after about 2 days of hanging them on the towel rails to dry we were all mixing them up! I would recommend getting different colours or embroidered towels to help with this. Overall the four of us and our dog really enjoyed our stay. We would recommend staying here and would happily stay again if we were in the area. Thank you Jane for a lovely week!

It was lovely to be back at The Little Coach House .

I have been fortunate enough to visit several times now , in different seasons , and it is always a pleasure. Karen and Russ are wonderful hosts , ( thank you for the bara brith and the bottle of wine ! ) The Little Coach House is always spotlessly clean and very comfortable , the location is beautiful , and the weather was fantastic this time too ! It’s a wonderful place to stay. I’d just like to point out that the listing on the Menai Cottages site may be slightly misleading, as it states that the Little Coach House is a bungalow , with level access . This could be a problem for any potential visitors with mobility difficulties , if they had thought from the description on the website that it was completely accessible for them , with level access and no stairs to negotiate. It is actually a little house , on two floors , with a staircase leading to the second floor bedroom and bathroom . There are also some shallow steps leading down from the private parking place for The Little Coach House. Additionally , as the private courtyard garden is on two levels , there are also some steps between the different levels. Maybe some indication of this on the website would be helpful for those who are thinking of booking a stay , but have limited mobility ?

Beautiful house in the most amazing setting, very clean and the perfect base for anyone wanting to explore the Welsh mountains and all it has to offer. Right on the edge of some amazing hikes and looking out at the most beautiful scene of mount Snowdon (we hiked Snowdon and could see the house from one of the paths). On arrival we had been provided with milk, fruit and Welsh cakes and the owners also dropped off some eggs freshly layed by their chickens that morning - washing up liquid, laundry detergent and dishwasher tablets were also provided! Comfortable beds and the most relaxing reading chair on the landing looking out over Snowdon (so comfortable I found the chair online and have brought one for myself). Brilliant holiday made even more special by having such an amazing place to stay - will definitely be back.

We received a very warm welcome from the owners despite the fact we had to change our travel plans.

The property is very well equipped and benefits from a private, quite large, beautiful patio area with table and seating, very useful as we had a dog with us. The coach house is cosy downstairs and has a spacious bedroom/ dressing area with TV. There are lovely landscaped garden views from every window. The gardens have various seating areas you can use and a summer house which contained DVDs and board games to borrow. There is a pleasant walk to a private lake which also has seating areas and sun lounges; there are boats you can use but we didn't! It is a pity that due to live stock our dog had to be on a lead but we quite understood. Located within 15 minutes drive of a very dog friendly beach and close to many Welsh beauty spots we are happy to recommend this lovely holiday property and would return.

A wonderful week at the Little Coach House!

This cottage had everything we needed for a relaxing week, easy to self cater, and is on the doorstep of many excellent locations and walks in Snowdonia. Karen was extremely welcoming and very helpful with local recommendations. We felt extremely covid secure as the cottage was extra clean and easy to keep social distancing in the large grounds of the property. In particular, we loved the well equipped kitchen, including the nespresso machine, and comfortable bed. Great locations of Criccieth and Beddgelert nearby, as well as easy access via A roads to Snowdon and its surrounding walks. We will definitely be back for another gorgeous stay at Tyddyn Mawr!

    Things to do near Snowdonia

    • Natural Landmark Natural Landmark
    Snowdonia National Park
Snowdonia National Park is a spectacular area, made up of mountains and glacial landforms popular with hikers. The park's historic Snowdon Mountain Railway climbs to the summit of Wales's highest mountain, Mount Snowdon, offering views across the sea to Ireland.

    Frequent questions

    • Is Snowdonia free to visit?

Yes, Snowdonia National Park in Wales is generally free to visit. The park itself is open to the public, and you can explore its natural beauty, hiking trails, and scenic viewpoints without an admission fee. However, there might be some specific attractions or facilities within the park that require a fee, such as parking at certain trailheads, visitor centres, guided tours, or activities like the Snowdon Mountain Railway.

    • How many days do you need for Snowdonia?

The ideal duration for a visit to Snowdonia National Park depends on your interests and the activities you plan to undertake. To enjoy some of the popular hiking trails, take in the breathtaking landscapes, and explore the area, a stay of 2 to 4 days would provide a good balance. This timeframe allows you to experience the beauty of the park without feeling rushed.

    • What is the best month to visit Snowdonia?

The best months to visit Snowdonia National Park are typically from late spring to early autumn, specifically May to September. During this period, the weather is generally milder, the days are longer, and the park's natural beauty is at its peak with blooming flora and clear hiking paths. However, keep in mind that weather in mountainous regions can be unpredictable, so it's wise to be prepared for various conditions regardless of the season.

    • Can you just walk up Snowdon?

Yes, you can walk up Snowdon, the highest mountain in Snowdonia National Park and in Wales. There are several hiking trails leading to the summit, ranging in difficulty and length. The most popular route is the Llanberis Path, which is relatively gradual (thus making it the longest) and follows the mountain railway up the summit. However, even though it's considered a "walk," it's important to be prepared with appropriate clothing, footwear, and supplies, as the weather conditions can change quickly, especially at higher elevations. Whichever route you opt for, be aware that it involves a demanding 5 to 8-hour hike with limited protection from the elements.
