"Having stayed at Blackclough last summer in the same week and had a fabulous time, we were unfortunately disappointed with our return stay. The location is absolutely stunning. Remote, amazing walks from the door which made us want to return. However, the cleanliness of the kitchen in particular was poor. No tin opener which was frustrating and no tea towels although we managed to find some in a laundry basket in the boot room (which we did not have access to on our first trip). There was a problem with the water pump which was incredibly noisy and intrusive. Not sure if they had already been aware of the problem before we reported it. A plumber visited midweek but was unable to rectify the problem whilst we were there. So it was not a peaceful stay with noises through the night. The timing of our visit was just bad luck as plumbing issues cannot be predicted. The accommodation is cosy and comfortable, well equipped kitchen. We enjoyed the wildlife with sheep peering through your front door and a hare spotted through the bathroom window. A 15 min walk down to Three Shire Head bridge with waterfall and plunge pool - a must! So much to do in the local area with bike ride along the Monsail trail into Bakewell and stunning walks from Edale, the start of the Penine Way."

"A lovely location and a beautiful part of the world. The accommodation is small but quirky and well-designed overall. There were a few touches missing which might be nice to add to make the place feel really special, eg. larger bath towels; some chopping boards in the kitchen; a cloth to wipe down the kitchen surfaces; clean and comfortable cushions to go in the outside chairs (the ones in the utility building were in very poor condition); a large mirror in the bedroom near a power socket; an outdoor dining table so you can have a proper meal out there (there is a small table but it is only suitable for cups or glasses); a folder of information on the location and nearby things to see and do - instead of the pile of leaflets by the staircase and visitors' notes on which pubs they had enjoyed. Also, we bought some feather pillows in Leek as the pillows provided were foam and lumpy and very uncomfortable.During our stay the Wifi was not working for half of the week (though Joe did get it fixed) and the tumble drier was not working at all."

"This is a remote stone farmhouse beautifully modernised. It would be ideal for keen walkers. The owners have provided everything you would expect in a luxury cottage. However, it is not on mains water and the noise from the pumped system when you drew any water was irritating. Forewarned about the very steep access to the house, we were still rather taken aback by the gated, narrow, twisting tarmac track which has to be taken very cautiously at night, in a downpour. OK we were a set of 4 OAP's and I'm sure youngsters would have revelled in the adventure! We ate twice at the Knight's table pub in Flash 2miles away. Excellent value and delicious homely food."

"Overall the cottage was excellent - particularly lovely location which is quiet and rural with lovely views but actually 2 mins drive from a supermarket and very conveniently placed for driving into Leek or getting to the main road to go further afield. The kitchen was well equipped and the power shower was particularly appreciated, heating and hot water were great, although the property would benefit from an extractor fan. The owner was very friendly and helpful. The only real complaint we had was the mattresses were very soft indeed and could do with replacing."

"Abbey barn is a lovely place for a holiday. A footpath outside the cottage for a fabulous walk up a steep hill, rewarding you with an impressive view of the surrounding area. Tucked away in a peaceful setting, the Pub next door was not noisy or a disturbance at all. Close enough for all the shops in Leek, great takeaway food in the town. The cottage is so comfortable and cosy. Beautifully done. Very well equipped. Lovely garden area for the dogs to play and to sit out and enjoy the views. Owner really nice, and ever so helpfull. Will certainly book it again!"
