"I have to report that upon arrival, we found the property overheated - temperature around 25 degrees. Despite instructions not to touch heating controls, I had to change the individual control (in each room) back to a sensible temperature of around 18-19 deg and open doors/windows. Because it is underfloor heating, this takes a long time, according to the plumber who arrived to sort out another problem, around 2-3 days. Therefore for the first two nights, sleeping was difficult. One of the bedrooms only has a patio door which couldn't be left open for air......The toilet in the main bathroom constantly refilled so on day 3 the plumber arrived to fix. The wi-fi is provided via dongle. Unfortunately the owner has been using the wrong network (Three) and therefore it was unusable. I have mobiles on all networks and was able to prove a decent signal on EE, so the owner kindly purchased a new dongle on this network and thereafter wi-fi was satisfactory. Another negative is that the boiler is located outside, the other side of the main en-suite bedroom. My mother was woken on numerous occasions by this switching on and off during the night, apparently to maintain the water temperature. Eventually she moved to the twin room. Us ladies need a mirror and adjacent socket to do our hair - only the twin bedroom provided this facility. There was no dressing table in the other rooms so was obliged to use the shelf in the main bathroom for this purpose. The living/dining/kitchen area is a very pleasant room and the lodge's best feature. Water pressure at the lodge is excellent as were the showers/bath. The wood in which the property is situated is on a private estate south of the village of Chirnside. It is a very peaceful location, only farm vehicles can be heard. Because it is shaded by trees, there isn't much possibility of sun bathing here - the other lodge is the better option for this activity."

"Very comfortable and well-furnished house, with plenty of glasses and adequate for six people. Everything you need for a base to explore the local area and the owner response well to communications. Eyemouth is a very nice place to visit with a working harbour and pictures countryside. Edinburgh is less than an hour away and is a good day trip. Everything within Eyemouth is in easy walking distance such a restaurants and shops. The local seagulls are the size of flying chickens :). Very good food from the local pubs. Berwick is also only ten minutes away, which is also a good day trip. Overall a very well-located house, as there are shops and restaurants nearby, with two amazing destinations for day trips nearby.Suited us very well.We stayed here for 1 week so we could tour the border region during the day time, eat out at night and have a comfortable place to relax and sleep. There was ample space outside for parking. The kitchen was well appointed, but underused in our case and there was a courtyard at the back with outdoor table/seating. All the rooms were clean and well equipped. Two of the bedrooms were on the third floor, so the kids were "encouraged" to have these. Eyemouth itself has plenty to see and do and lots of choices for eating out."

"This cottage fails to meet its potential due to several factors dirty windows inside and out /old out of date double glazing with failing sealed units allowing cold in the bedroom with the bunk beds in being especially effected with a visible hole you can put your finger through The beds are very uncomfortable and the bed linen although clean was very cheap looking. There was visible mould on all the seals on the inside of the windows and dead flies which also had mould on them suggesting they had been there for sometime. The curtains in most rooms were faded and not particularly clean and the garden was spoilt as it was overgrown and uncared for. Despite all of that we enjoyed our stay but it is such a shame as it could be so much better with some care and attention Also you have to take your own towels adding to your luggage. There is no proper fridge freezer just a very small fridge with the minutest freezer compartment inside. There is sufficient room in a very large utility room to put a nice fridge freezer, Hope that the owner will take this onboard as it could be so lovely and we would return many times if these things were rectified"

"We enjoyed the holiday because Eyemouth is a lovely coastal town based around a busy fishing harbour and on a particularly beautiful stretch of the north east coast. The town centre is unspoilt with little alleyways and narrow streets and a home bakers shop. There is also a modern supermarket. There are pubs that serve good food and also interesting museums, including the Georgian Villa, Gunners Green, which has been opened up for visits. Part of the visit is about smugglers which children can take an active part in. Our 3 year old really enjoyed his visit there. There is a little sandy beach there which the children enjoyed. Also a beautiful cliff top walk to Coldingham where you can have a pub lunch and a bus ride back to Eyemouth. The accommodation was comfortable and there was adequate equipment and space for our party of 4 adults and two small children. It was also close to the town centre: about 10 minutes walk."

"We tried contacting the owner Mr. Vanko prior to travelling, 48 hours before travel as requested, but did not get any response, we then rang Sykes Cottages, (spoke to Jade) to inform them of our situation, they did manage to get us the door code to gain access to the property. Upon arrival at the property after a 4 hour drive from the ferryport in Cairnryan (we reside in Ireland) we found that the door access code given by Sykes Cottages was the wrong one, we tried the owner Mr Vanko again and left a message and he did return the call and he confirmed that we were given the wrong access code and gave us the right one. We could have done without this hassle after a lengthy car journey. Whilst the premises were comfortable this is the first place we have rented that towels were not provided, towels are a basic requirement .House could do with a bit of TLC."
