"This is a delightful, quaint and quirky cottage set in a lovely rural village with a small idyllic, well maintained, pretty and secluded garden to the rear. Stunning Rose of Sharon bushes in full flower and other shrubbery provides total privacy. The garden is fully enclosed which enabled our pet to wander round at his leisure without the worry of him escaping. There was also a summerhouse with a small decked area and even a barbecue for the BBQ enthusiasts. The cottage was extremely well appointed throughout with absolutely everything thought of to make our stay as smooth and comfortable as possible. Whilst the stairs are not suitable for people with mobility issues, the bedrooms were nicely furnished with extremely comfortable beds in both rooms. Unusually, the master bedroom had a super king sized bed comprising two singles joined together and plenty of storage space. Really good sized bathroom on the ground floor with a bath and a really good, powerful shower. It was a bonus having a dining room separate from the lounge and a kitchen which also had a table and chairs. The owners Darren and Karen were very welcoming and accommodating; as was the landlord of the White Lion next door who allowed us to use his car park to avoid on street parking. We were astonished to read the negative review of the previous visitors. Quite frankly there was no evidence of the problem they referred to and there would have been. That said, why visit the countryside if you can't cope with what goes with country life. Equally the garden was certainly not overgrown - it was very much in keeping with such a lovely 15th century country cottage. We stayed for 5 days and hope to have the opportunity of staying again. We were amazed to read of the previous negative review."

"This is a fantastic cottage with lots of character, not for those that want perfect straight lines and smooth surfaces, but for those looking for character and comfort. The cottage had all that we needed for a family including two late teenage sons. wifi worked perfectly, including outside to the patio which is perfect for an early evening drink. Kitchen is well stocked with the usual pans etc, and the cooker looks barely used, the dishwasher a lovely help to allow you to relax. Plenty of shops, takeaways etc within a 5 minute walk, including a well stocked coop. Previous reports have talked about squirrels, well we didn't see or hear anything during our week, but we did keep food locked away as this is a rural location. The fire in the sitting room looked very appealing, but we were here when the temperature barely dropped below 25 degrees, so no need for us to light it. There are plenty of relaxing walks from the footpath and bridleway starting from right outside the front door, so miles of open countryside begging to be explored. We visited the pub nest door on our next to last evening, what a mistake. Very friendly staff with real ale served straight from the barrel, absolutely wonderful! The only reason I have marked the location down is because the pub has music evenings, I loved them but others may not. Would I recommend - Yes, would I go again - Yes. Darren was great to contact and answered my questions very quickly and efficiently, thank you."

"When we arrived at the premises Hillcroft, it was blowing a gale and raining. However when we entered the premises there were electric storage heaters installed, but they we not switched on. The only other heating was an electric convector heater on the wall in the bedroom! Also, there was only a thin summer quilt on the double bed, and no additional bedding in the premises. When the owner arrived at 6:00PM, she stated that we could not use the storage heaters as they used too much electricity! Instead she offered a small oil filled electric radiator, and a winter quilt for the bed! We then found that there were no instructions for the bath shower, and the plug in the bathroom since did not hold the water in. As a result, we had to wash in the kitchen sink! The toilet seat was loose, and when you flushed the toilet it flushed twice by itself. There were no coat hangers in the wardrobe, so coats and shirts could only be hung on the back of the front door at the bottom of the stairs. The kitchen equipment was basic, with only essential utensils, the light over the cooker did not work, and was replaced by a battery light, but the batteries were dead! Need I say anymore! As a result of the cold accommodation, and the other points above, we have left the premises this morning. From the initial response by the owner I did not bother to raise these points with her."

"This should have been a fantastic property. Owners have neglected it. Cobwebs, dirty windows, overgrown enclosed garden, dirty towel, unemptied bins, lack of blinds and curtains just took the sparkle off our stay. The weather was great so we thoroughly enjoyed walking around the garden where there was a mowed route for people to enjoy. Not sure how much we would have enjoyed this had there been somebody in the neighbouring cottage which looks as open to being looked in on as the property we stayed in with the exception of the hall between the two wings which was all glass and no curtains (this is the only way from the downstairs bedroom to the downstairs bathroom), and the fact the next door cottage windows look straight into the conservatory. The conservatory is a great seating room with table tennis table and pool table. The granny annex was nice but isolated from the rest of the property with its own lounge and bathroom. We wanted a nice quiet getaway and it certainly was that."

"I enjoyed a lovely week at the two properties and would have rated them both higher if it was not for the lack of such things as basic condiments and tea bags etc. on arrival. Although there was a large garden area, there was only one croquet set with missing hoops to keep both youngsters and adults amused. We did buy a couple of outside games which we have left at the property for others. We have also left a supply of the basic condiments for the next family that follows us in. I had requested a cot which we thought had been forgotten but then found under seating two days into our holiday. I believe this is a fairly new holiday rental and so assume these to be teething problems. They are both lovely properties, well maintained and in a beautiful setting. I would recommend them to anyone that wishes for a quiet holiday away from the hurly-burly of modern living and away from busy roads."
