What our customers say about their holidays

    • Rebecca - Verified booking

Stayed for a week in the Hayloft.

On arrival was blown away with the views from the property as it’s set in a beautiful, quiet location with views of the welsh landscape. The owners of the property were really welcoming, helpful and friendly and made the stay very comfortable. There was a lovely basket with cheese, jams and welsh cakes on arrival as well as milk and bread which was really appreciated to help get us settled in after a long journey. Not important to everyone, but I thought the fact that we had extra towels in the bathroom not just the regular hand and bath towel you normally get were a nice touch too. The property is well thought out, clean and comfortable. Added bonus is the property has a games room, a small children’s play area and a maze made of maze. We used the games room and the maze which were fun to use on an afternoon/evening. The location of the property is perfect for those who want a quiet, peaceful location with beautiful countryside views which is close enough to amenities - local shop is a short walk away; pubs, the beach, coastal walks (which are stunning!!) are approx 10-30 minute drive depending on which part of the coast you choose to visit. Would highly recommend and will definitely be returning!

From our initial booking to saying goodbye, the property and particularly Sam and Dave could not have been better.

The Hayloft is very well equipped, including a full range of cooking equipment. It was spotless and clearly a great deal of care had been put into creating a very high standard holiday cottage. The views from the garden and immediate surrounds are spectacular and very peaceful. Our favourite local pub was the Nags Head, which is about 3 miles away. The garden was fully enclosed for our dog and they even provide a tempoary dog disc with the property details incase of mishap - a very thoughtful idea. There was a great welcome pack to get us going, including doggie treats. Cardigan is about 15 mintes away, and Tenby and St Davids are within 1 hour. There are also 2 great cheese producers nearby. We would thoroughly recommend Sam, Dave and The Hayloft for a peaceful, comfortable and relaxing holiday.

The cottage was better than expected - spacious and modern without taking away the character of the barn conversion.

A lot of thought had gone into equipping the accommodation to make the stay as comfortable as possible - even a drying room for wet clothing and boots. The owners were friendly and approachable but also left us to enjoy our stay. We had our own fenced garden with thoughtfully placed table and chairs to catch the sun and admire the amazing view. The welcome pack was lovely - locally produced cheese and jams as well as essentials such as bread, milk, eggs, tea and Welsh teacakes. They also left a map with walks from the house around the farm and to the waterfall and pub. We have used Sykes Cottages before and found the booking process easy and trouble free with all information sent out in good time with clear directions to the property. I would definitely book with Sykes again.

    • Julie - Verified booking

The property is in a poor state, and was apparently furnished from a junk shop.

Dirty, broken furniture, a broken shower head, a hole in the bath and an extractor so filthy you wouldn't believe it has ever been cleaned. The owner has refused to respond to my complaint via Sykes, because we didn't give them the opportunity to put things right during our 4 day stay. In truth, they would have needed more than 4 days to make this place acceptable. The owner has the health food shop downstairs and I can't believe that she inspects it and doesn't see it's failings. Utterly disgusted with how Sykes deal with clients and am currently getting advice on how to take this further. Unbelievably, Sykes do not have a formal complaints procedure - or if they do, they refuse to disclose it. The property is not fit for purpose.

    • Ruth - Verified booking

      Ideal for us.

...spacious and really comfortable. The kitchen was really well appointed, the living room had comfortable sofas and a lovely woodburner, though we didn't need it much at all as the flat was very warm and cosy. It was really relaxing. It was quiet and extremely well located in the village itself with all the possible amenities you could wish for. Newport is a lovely little village. You can walk directly from the flat on to the coastal path, down to the seafront or even to the beach, as well as up into the hills. Claire and her mum were excellent hosts and responsive as well as very friendly. We really recommend this place and will be returning.
