From those cosy little hideaways that are evocative of simpler times, to spacious modern properties that boast their own heated swimming pools and hot tubs – with hundreds of holiday cottages in England there’s literally something for everyone.

You won’t be missing out on any of the home comforts, either, with beautifully decorated interiors, full-equipped kitchens and lots of little finishing touches you simply don’t get in hotels. England holiday cottages offer an authentic self-catered experience, giving you and the family the freedom to enjoy your time off in exactly the way you choose, and with many pet-friendly options available your beloved pet can even accompany you on the adventure.

What’s best about England holiday cottages?

Location, location, location – it’s the most important consideration for any holiday. England holiday cottages are all across the UK, with many amazing options located out in the countryside, next to the coast, or slap-bang in the middle of the city. The UK boasts some incredible and natural landscapes, for instance the magnificent peaks and bodies of water that define the Lake District, or the wild open spaces of the Yorkshire moors.

In Victorian times holidaymakers would head out in droves to seaside towns like Whitby, Blackpool or Weymouth. These quintessentially British locations are still well worth visiting, offering all the fun of the fair combined with beautiful beaches and rugged coastal paths. The British coastline is an ideal spot for a cottage holiday, and many of the properties on offer have histories dating back to the Industrial Revolution and even beyond – look out for former miner’s properties and even converted mills that are bursting with character.

No cottage holiday is ever the same. Forget cookie-cutter accommodation and choose a home away from home that’s unique and full of character, whether you’re looking for something large and spacious for a group trip, or your very own idyllic hideaway steeped in romance, history, and magic.

What our customers are saying about our Holiday Cottages In England To Rent.

"S71987 is a lovely property. Nice and spacious with an enormous back garden laid to lawn which was much appreciated by the dog. The weather was not very kind to us - saw the night sky only once, but it would be lovely sat in the garden in the warmer season. Loved the Kielder castle visitors centre which is a short walk away and from there just minutes to the lakeside walk and a nice evening stroll as a final nights exercise for the dog. You are also able to walk up to the observatory in the Kielder forrest without getting the car out. The Keilder forrest and lake are man made and quite definitely designed with children and cyclists, in particular, in mind. This means the paths round the lake and to specific points are very good, mainly cinder tracks so flat and suitable for even wheelchairs. There are many routes off into the forrest but really designed for mountain biking. My grandsons would have adored it. Toilet facilities are good at the three main centres but we found none of the other facilities open apart from the cafe at Kielder Castle. There is a brilliant hide at the North shore walk (Kielder Castle end) and also at Kielder Castle end a lovely 1 mile walk past the Squirrel feeding station. We walked miles over the week but did not see a red squirrel and only 1 deer. Perhaps the wrong time of the year and poor weather conditions. Beware this is a very remote location and you need to either take everything with you or as we noticed many did use the Tesco delivery service. Very thoughtful of the owners to leave bread and a large container of milk and some wine!We drove into Hawick on a very rainy day some 24 miles away over the Scottish border. The only vehicle we saw on the way there were timber lorries heading into the forrest to collect loads - yes this is very much a working forrest. There are nice shops and supermarkets there. The other trip we did which was 1 hours drive away but well worth it was National Trust Homestead and Hadrian's Wall. Very atmospheric and stunning views. At the opposite end of the lake is a really nice little village called Falstone. Park at the Dam and walk down to it. It is very expensive parking in the Kielder Forrest. Ok if you are based somewhere else and just coming for the day it is not too bad. If we had gone walking from the various car parks over the week we would have had to spend £35 in parking fees - bit much given we spent the previous week near Whitby in Yorkshire and found wherever we went parking was free from 31st October to 1st March and yes there were free toilet facilities in the car parks. If you want to come to the forrest for a weeks walking or cycling on the wild side, S71987 is the place to choose because lots of facilities are this end of the lake and you can do a lot without having to pay car park fees. The locals are very friendly and will give you advice on where to go."

"Unlike some properties at Lower Mill with limited views, S80374 overlooks the wonderful Somerford Lagoon and it's so lovely and relaxing to be able to watch and listen to the different birds that come and go. In the evening, we could almost reach out and touch the bats that came out to catch their supper. The whole estate is a joy for those of all ages, who love and appreciate nature. We don't have young children but for those who do, they would be well catered for. There's a lovely atmosphere across the whole site and everyone we met was friendly. A strict code of conduct ensures that nature, wildlife, and peacefulness take priority. The Spa is an absolute oasis; beautifully clean and with the outside pool being even warmer than the inside one. Our week long stay was at the beginning of October and one warm, sunny weekday we had the outdoor pool to ourselves for almost 2 hours-bliss!The house itself is spacious, clean, very well equipped for the number of people it can accommodate and would be warm and cosy during cold weather (we had to turn the heating off). The beds were very comfortable and the linen and towels clean. The only disappointment was the 'General Store'. This amounts to no more than a few shelves of random items within the Ballihoo Restaurant. They didn't even stock ordinary tea and were charging 60p each for tomatoes which, needless to say we declined. So, if you don't want to spend your holiday food shopping, make sure you either bring everything with you or arrange to have it delivered. We shopped at The Organic Farm Shop in nearby Burford (the organicfarmshop.co.uk) and would very highly recommend it. They stock pretty much everything you could need and the food in the cafe is delicious. Well worth a visit in itself for anyone who appreciates good quality food, with much of the fruit and vegetables being grown on site."

"S71987 was a perfect base for our holiday. Gordon and Yvonne were most hospitable and had prepared the house to a high standard so everything was prepared for our arrival and we were very happy throughout our stay. The local amenities are limited, small shop, pub (the anglers) and the cafe at the castle - there is also a large bike shop and mountain bike activity seems to be popular though we didn't on this occasion we noted the large range of routes. We had two dogs with us and the forestry trails were perfect for our needs and the dark skies at night were full of stars. So if country living and simplicity are for you this is the ideal location. It is not an 'easy' place to reach the roads up from the A69 (turn off near Hexham to Belingham and up alongside Kielder Water etc.) are a bit better condition wise than the roads from the North down (off the A7) but which you use also depends where you are coming from. We would thoroughly recommend S71987, certainly for a couple, as we were, but also for a family as the second bedroom has full size beds and plenty of space. Rear garden is a very good size and enclosed and leads out into a small area of forest above the stream."

"This cottage is fine but let down badly by a series of faults, each one minor but overall adding up to a feeling that both the owner and the local support staff don't care about the property. This is why I have only given it a 3 rating. As evidence, all these faults have been noted in the guest comments book in the cottage itself (some from many months back) but never acted on, so clearly no point in writing anything in there. A prime example is the fact that the front door handle is loose and easily dislodged from its working position (& falls off easily if you pull it)! This means that if you are inside the building and the outside handle is slightly dislodged then you can't open the door to get out! An obvious safety hazard.Other examples are the broken lid on the kitchen rubbish bin, the wonky toilet roll holder in on of the bathrooms, the BBQs unusable (dirty), the lack of information on how & when to deal with recyling and rubbish. If the owner were to spend a small amount of money replacing/repairing the various broken items future renters would be much more satisfied than I am."

"We've just returned from a wonderful 2 week stay, this is a place to truely relax. We ventured out to the Northumberland coast, and Hadrian's wall, but mainly stayed put and enjoyed the forest walks that are accessible straight from the front door. The castle cafe is wonderful, lovely home cooked food and lovely staff and dog friendly. The local pub is a little disappointing food was nice and staff friendly enough, but decor is just a bit run down. Unfortunately for the local community the small shop is closing down and running stocks down, so don't rely on this being there much longer. Tesco do deliver to this area, and the visitor centre at Waterside (about half way down the resevoir) sells basic provisions. A visit to the observatory is highly recommended, we didn't realise how popular this was and that people book months in advance, we were lucky to get 2 cancelled tickets on the clearest night of our stay, but if this is one of the reasons for booking here ( it's literally 5 mins drive) then look to book your spaces in advance to avoid disappointment."
