"It's hard to say what the best thing about Bowden is: braving the wind to stand on the private beach at midnight on Christmas Eve; cooking Christmas dinner with red squirrels feeding outside the window; sitting in the conservatory watching the sky get dark across the beautiful grounds; running your hands over the banisters, lovingly restored with 24 coats of varnish; chatting to Peter the owner over coffee; piling into the living room with wine, cake and board games... The house is historic, majestic, magical and beautifully crafted, with space for a large extended family group to eat together and play together, or to spread out over several rooms for a variety of activities. A minor drawback is the disparity between the sweeping grandeur of the first floor and the servants quarters on the second floor: bedroom and bathroom arrangements need some negotiation to keep all group members happy! It was a privilege to be the first guests for Christmas 2017 and to feel that we honoured Peter's vision of bringing his beloved family home back to life for a new chapter in the house's history."

"We stayed at S37352 as a family of three with a 22 month old. The property is spacious and well equipped with all the amenities we needed, including tea, coffee and sugar. It was lovely to be welcomed with a pint of milk and custard creams. We had an issue with the travel cot on arrival but within 30mins of us leaving a message, the property agent text to advise they would arrange for a new one to be delivered so excellent customer service. I was slightly worried about the number of reviews on the leaking shower but I’m pleased to say it’s been fixed and it’s much larger than in the photo! Probably one of the best showers!The parking for the property is on a shared driveway. We had an estate and as long as we parked close to the garage on the left it was fine for the neighbor to get in&out. The master bedroom was very spacious and has a very large comfortable bed."

"What a great cottage!! Although we had rubbish weather while there, you could not fault the cottage which was very well kept, comfortable and fully equipped. The beds were very comfortable, the kitchen had everything (including a quarter pint of milk and some shortbread waiting for us!), and the shower had great pressure! We only had one dry day, but did a lovely 12km walk straight out the door. The cottage is on a working farm so my only warning is that the animals are very boisterous in the morning, serving as an alarm clock, particularly if you keep the windows open at night! There is a pub in West Meon, and two in East Meon, either direction not more than a couple kms. We went to Ye Olde George which was nice. A day trip including Winchester and Portsmouth is also doable. Would be lovely to return in better weather!!"

"located close to the ferry terminal at Fishbourne so very convenient when travelling to the island. A good base to tour the island with everything being within 20 miles . The views of the Medina were good. Three pubs within 2-3 miles, with one being in 15 mins walking distance, serving carvery and other meals - this was mostly busy so we would advise booking in advance. Our son is a rapidly growing teenager and the 2ft 6 inch beds in the second bedroom were only just big enough for him, another year and they would have been too small.The house is just starting to show some signs of wear and tear but overall is a good choice for 3-5 people (we had a towel rail fall off when first touched, but without tools could not rectify this, and two of the showers are starting to show signs of use)"

"We arrived to a very clean and tidy S37352 with all the facilities as advertised. Parking is fine but you do have to pull up very close to the garage door so that the neighbour can access his garage. Might be an issue with a large SUV or long estate vehicle, but no problem for us.A short walk to the high street with a local Co-op open until 11pm, with a Co-op supermarket just another 5 mins walk. Very easy access to the cliff top with wonderful views.Bedrooms large and airy - perhaps curtains as well as shutters for the summertime? Main double very comfortable. Bunk bed in 2nd bedroom a bit rickety and previous visits have commented on this for a while in the visitors book.Lots to do within 30 min drive.Overall, a lovely stay. Would definitely return."
