"Unlike some properties at Lower Mill with limited views, S80374 overlooks the wonderful Somerford Lagoon and it's so lovely and relaxing to be able to watch and listen to the different birds that come and go. In the evening, we could almost reach out and touch the bats that came out to catch their supper. The whole estate is a joy for those of all ages, who love and appreciate nature. We don't have young children but for those who do, they would be well catered for. There's a lovely atmosphere across the whole site and everyone we met was friendly. A strict code of conduct ensures that nature, wildlife, and peacefulness take priority. The Spa is an absolute oasis; beautifully clean and with the outside pool being even warmer than the inside one. Our week long stay was at the beginning of October and one warm, sunny weekday we had the outdoor pool to ourselves for almost 2 hours-bliss!The house itself is spacious, clean, very well equipped for the number of people it can accommodate and would be warm and cosy during cold weather (we had to turn the heating off). The beds were very comfortable and the linen and towels clean. The only disappointment was the 'General Store'. This amounts to no more than a few shelves of random items within the Ballihoo Restaurant. They didn't even stock ordinary tea and were charging 60p each for tomatoes which, needless to say we declined. So, if you don't want to spend your holiday food shopping, make sure you either bring everything with you or arrange to have it delivered. We shopped at The Organic Farm Shop in nearby Burford (the organicfarmshop.co.uk) and would very highly recommend it. They stock pretty much everything you could need and the food in the cafe is delicious. Well worth a visit in itself for anyone who appreciates good quality food, with much of the fruit and vegetables being grown on site."

"The cottage is semi detached and part of a barn conversion. It is comfortable, clean, well-furnished, and Julie met us very nicely on arrival. Our huge problem on this otherwise lovely 3 day break, was the fact the other part of the conversion, which has a "soundproofed" adjoining door, was rented out to a group of about 6 ladies having a reunion. Every single sound can be heard as the tasteful conversion, is unfortunately, like a box for noise. The party on the first night went on with music and conversation until 4 A.M., and was like we were all together in one large room. I've noticed many cottage rentals are saying NO PARTIES OR EVENTS. This needs to happen at S81524, unless the 2 adjoining properties are rented together. We would love to stay again, but we would want assurances that the neighbours were having a normal holiday and not holding an early hours party. The other problem we had was that the security sensors in the corners of the bedroom kept flashing white light if there was movement in the darkness. This could be caused by lifting an arm to pull over a duvet, getting up to go to the loo, or whatever. At first I thought it was a security light outside being disturbed by an animal, but then realised this was a flashing white light in the bedroom itself. The cottage was beautifully furnished, we had all we needed, but a hairdryer would be useful, I forgot to pack one. The washing machine was good, and our sons used this, but its in the "tower" part of the 2 cottages, not in the kitchen, however no problem for the boys. We had brought our own drying rack fortunately, the cottage didn't appear to have one. Small ironing board and iron was provided. Good quality fixtures and fittings, and decor very pleasing."

"This cottage is fine but let down badly by a series of faults, each one minor but overall adding up to a feeling that both the owner and the local support staff don't care about the property. This is why I have only given it a 3 rating. As evidence, all these faults have been noted in the guest comments book in the cottage itself (some from many months back) but never acted on, so clearly no point in writing anything in there. A prime example is the fact that the front door handle is loose and easily dislodged from its working position (& falls off easily if you pull it)! This means that if you are inside the building and the outside handle is slightly dislodged then you can't open the door to get out! An obvious safety hazard.Other examples are the broken lid on the kitchen rubbish bin, the wonky toilet roll holder in on of the bathrooms, the BBQs unusable (dirty), the lack of information on how & when to deal with recyling and rubbish. If the owner were to spend a small amount of money replacing/repairing the various broken items future renters would be much more satisfied than I am."

"We enjoyed a super holiday at S15100. The house is well situated with lovely views to front and back. The layout out inside is very practical with a large sitting room, large kitchen-diner ( with doors opening out onto the patio/garden) and good-sized bedrooms. The house was very well equipped with more than enough crockery, cutlery glasses etc.. The bathrooms and en-suite shower rooms were spacious with lovely fittings. Wifi and phone signal both excellent. There is a pub 150 yards away and about 300 yards is the railway station with trains to Whitby. It's a very friendly line but not very punctual! The house is very well placed for a number of lovely walks. The two shops (post office/store and butcher's) are about a mile away. The roads into and around the village are very steep ( up to 1 in 3) so we were not sorry not to have taken our bikes!A great holiday in an area we didn't know at all well before."

"The house was spacious, and the location was perfect. There was a large decked area with table and plenty of chairs at the back of the house, overlooking the lake. Two of the first floor bedrooms had balconies overlooking the lake. We were surprised that the top floor bedroom didn't have a window to take advantage of the view, but a skylight, that didn't spoil the holiday though. My son in law took his kayak and made full use of it on the lake. The grandchildren loved the swimming pools, indoor and out, as we all did, and the weather was brilliant. We also enjoyed meeting the swans with their cygnets, and watching and identifying the many different birds. There were some good dog friendly pubs close by, The Bakers Arms, The Greyhound and we particularly enjoyed eating at the Wheatsheaf. It was a wonderful relaxed holiday and we all wanted to stay on for another week."
