A visit to Stirling isn’t complete without a trip to its imposing castle; it offers great views over the city. More more historic delights, take a walk around the old town where you’ll also find plenty of independent shops. "The cottage owners were lovely and made us feel very welcome. The cottage is situated up a short track (a couple of hundred yards from the end of the street) and has its own gated entrance and parking space at the back of the property. The views of the hills (Campsies?) from the back of the cottage are beautiful. You enter the cottage through your own private entrance at the back so you don't disturb the owners. The gardens are beautiful and well manicured. We saw rabbits, pheasants and lots of lovely birds on the bird feeders (binoculars were provided too!). Inside the cottage, the décor and facilities are excellent. Everything you can think of is provided from a coffee machine and coffee pods to plenty of towels and toilet rolls. The cottage is very comfortable and warm (you can control the heating yourself using a hive heating control). The décor is excellent and it is well furnished with quality furniture and bedding. The local facilities in Balfron are ok, there is a small Co-op, Post Office, pub, bakers, doctors and petrol station. We had arranged a Tesco delivery to the cottage so only used the Co-op a couple of times. We found the cottage to be very handy for what we wanted to visit. Stirling was only 20 miles away, Drymen 8 miles and Glasgow about 20 miles. Loch Lomond and the Trossachs are within 20-30 minutes drive. We would definitely stay here again and can honestly say we think it is one of the best, if not the best, cottage we have stayed in."

"Comfort would have been a 10 except the double bed is really hard. My wife and I both woke up with stiff backs. Also, the WIFI just doesn't work. They piggy-back off the pub but need a WiFi signal booster (£30 from Currys, if you read this) so that the signal is strong enough to be picked up. This makes this location useless for anyone, like me, who wants to get an hour of work in before heading into the hills. The location is easy to find and to get to, but it's quite close to the road (about 20-30m from the road itself, which is limited to 30 mph). To be fair, it wasn't really a problem, but you can hear the cars whizzing by from the main bedroom. Having said that, you're right at the foot of the hills - simply wonderful location from that point of view.Having said that, the accommodation itself is absolutely marvelous. It's spacious, beautifully maintained and the basket of fruit was such a lovely touch. Sort out that hard bed and the WiFi and it would all 10s (apart from location)."

"My sister and I have visited Barn Owl Cottage for last 3 years running, which should begin to tell you how good this place is. It is an absolutely fabulous cottage in an out-of-the-way location. Quiet, peaceful and relaxing, the situation is great, but you are not too far from motorways and main roads, to take you to some great days out. We visited loads of places, but were happy to be back at the cottage in the evenings. It is clean, comfortable and very well equipped. Hosts, George and Morag, are wonderful, welcoming people and make you very much at home. There is an Honesty Room on site which has DVDs, books, leaflets for sightseeing etc. It is all very well worth the money and I'm about to book up again for next years holiday. We adore this place and will keep coming back."

"The cottage is in a lovely position at the top of a slope looking down over a loch with a fabulous view from the large bedroom window. Everything is immaculately kept, and it had everything we needed including a very generous welcome pack on arrival. Towels, bath robe and even slippers were included. The owners have provided an 'honesty room' where you can get a variety of information or borrow games, DVDs etc. though we didn't actually get time to use these as we had only booked 3 nights. The cottage is away from everything but ideally situated for sightseeing - we visited Balloch at Loch Lomond, Stirling Castle, Doune Castle, the Wallace Monument and Edinburgh and also had a lovely evening stroll round the loch next to the cottage. Perfect break!"

"Although only 4.5 miles from Stirling it is worth taking your time getting there. The single track roads were a challenge and the numerous potholes in them kept your attention but having got there the cottage was everything as promised. The central heating kept the place cosy. The cottage was beautifully clean, the welcome pack was adequate and the views to the rear are magnificent. The tv and internet connection was patchy but what you would expect in the “wilds”. Overall I loved the cottage and the views and it is a good place to be based if you want to investigate this part of Scotland. The owner assisted us not only with directions to the local hotspots,ie, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Falkirk, but with a minor problem with the shower"
