About this property

Ty Coch - Maentwrog is a delightful holiday cottage located in the glorious Snowdonia National Park. You’ll be greeted by a traditional Welsh stone cottage with definite kerb appeal. It’s nestled in an acre of landscaped gardens with a stream that trickles through National Trust oak woodland past the cottage. This is an idyllic setting for a family holiday in North Wales.

If you enter via the front door you step into the landing on the mid level. Take the nine stairs down to ground floor where you’ll find the kitchen and living areas. Four steps take you up to the bedrooms.

The spacious sitting room is lovely with its large inglenook fireplace with an oil burning stove making - this makes it wonderfully cosy in all seasons. The stove can be turned down but not switched off. In the summer, you can always open the windows and let the fresh air flow through! There’s comfy sofas, a TV with Freesat and a dining table & chairs.

The snug has a log burner but no TV although there is a docking station for those of you that enjoy listening to your music. This is a great space to relax!

The kitchen has a lovely rustic feel - there is underfloor heating and french doors leading out onto a seating area. Through the window, behind the Belfast sink are views of the garden. There’s a washing machine & tumble dryer, slow cooker, fridge freezer, electric hob, oven & grill, microwave.

A family bathroom has a bath with shower over & wash hand basin. There is a separate cloakroom with a loo, too.

There are three sweet bedrooms, one double, a twin and a single. One room has an ensuite with shower, loo & wash hand basin.

Ty Coch - Maentwrog sits in around one acre of gardens that are yours to enjoy. Adjoining the holiday cottage are pretty woodlands owned by the National Trust. To the front of the cottage are lawned, landscaped gardens that are steep at times. There is a summerhouse with seating inside and a docking station - put on that music, enjoy the setting and sip your evening drinks! There is ample parking outside the house.

Take a walk from the holiday cottage to the Oakley Arms for a meal or a pint! In the area surrounding the cottage are many wonderful walks, cycle routes, attractions & experiences on offer like steam train rides! Some of Snowdonia’s best tourist towns are a drive away too including Harlech with its sandy beach and castle. The pretty village of Llanbedr & Shell Island or bustling Barmouth. Whether you want to relax in an idyllic setting, or get out and about and explore the best that North Wales has to offer, this holiday cottage makes for an ideal base for your family holiday.

Maentwrog is a village and community in the Welsh county of Gwynedd, lying in the Vale of Ffestiniog just below Blaenau Ffestiniog, within the Snowdonia National Park. The River Dwyryd runs alongside the village, on the periphery and adds to the picturesque environment. The village has its own highly regarded traditional inn, the Grapes Hotel, well known for its food and atmosphere and the Oakeley Arms is also nearby. The scenic area around Maentwrog has many public footpaths plus the beauty spot of Plas Tan Y Bwlch and the Ffestiniog Steam Railway are also within a few miles. Nearby Plas Tan y Bwlch, substantially rebuilt during the 19th century by the Oakeley family on the site of a first house probably built in the early 17th century, overlooks the village. Plas Tan y Bwlch has its own halt - Plas Halt - on the Ffestiniog Railway, and nearby Tan-y-Bwlch railway station is the railway's principal intermediate station. Maentwrog means Twrog's stone and according to legend, a giant known as Twrog hurled a boulder from the top of a hill down into the settlement, destroying a pagan altar. This stone is said to be the one located in St Twrog's Church courtyard. It is said that if one rubs this boulder one is fated to return to the village in the future. The village settlement expanded in the 19th century to house workers from local slate mines. Within the village community is the imposing Plas Tan y Bwlch, home of the Snowdonia National Park Study Centre and former residence of the Oakeley family. A superb base from which to discover the Snowdonia National Park and all of North Wales.

Cosy and comfortable house with plenty of space. Everything you need, like maps and guide books, great kitchen, beautiful gardens and we loved feeding the birds. Beautiful walks from your door and 2 pubs to visit. Absolute peace with a waterfall to fall asleep to the sound of. Surrounding area is stunning with plenty to see in the mountains, valleys and the coast. Have already booked to return.
