The decoration is lovely, nice touches like a bottle of wine on arrival were very thoughtful. The pictures and the description didn’t show that you actually overlook a tool hire yard. Not what we expected and made it feel a bit awkward going in the hot tub during their opening hours. Obviously they are having work done on one of the cottages but there were piles of rubble / building waste around which brought the overall look of the place down. There was an old bed underneath the barn and bags of laundry just left there. Which again brought down the overall appearance and feel of the stay - these are things that could have been easily rectified. The barn looks unfinished at the bottom, I’m sure it will be lovely when completed. Other things that could be improved and really small things but irritating all the same. Soap dispensers without soap in - toilet roll holders for the walls - the amount of times the toilet roll fell in the sink because there was nowhere to balance. Overall it was a little dusty in places which could have been easily resolved. The water in the cottage wasn’t hot - when having a bath it filled with cold water. The guests in the cottage across the road were having the same issue as they woke us up at 8am to ask us where the boiler was. The hot tub is lovely, but wasn’t very clean. There was an orange scum on the water whenever we turned it on, which was off putting - the chlorine levels were extreme which not only made your eyes water, I had a skin rash for a week afterwards. The piano and games was a nice addition. And the overall decoration was lovely. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen had good facilities, although would be good to know where the outside bin is. I do not wish to be negative as the barn has huge potential even with the location as it still is in beautiful countryside. But these are things that would make the experience better and they are pretty easily rectified.

Hot tub great (just not the location!) Beds very comfy. Candles are a nice touch in some of the rooms. Con's - Should mention that you are next to the recycling plant and that the barn overlooks a toolyard at the back. Very uncomfortable when wanting to use the hot tub and workers are there. Garden is not enclosed as advertised and this is a real issue especially with a dog or young kids... cars are coming and going all day to the tool hire yard so not impressed with the fact this is being sold as 'enclosed' as it is clearly not. Garden is not even useable as it has rubble and wood and is not well cared for. Kitchen is well equipped but there are no coasters or table mats which there should be. Bathrooms - were OK but not enough toilet roll so if you would like guests to bring their own then this should be mentioned. Towels - are OK but not very big so could do with some bigger bath towels. Family of 4 - not great for sitting in the lounge as the sofa is definitely only good for 2 persons (2 adults) and then there is 1 x chair so other members of the family need to sit on the dining chairs or on the floor. A bigger sofa would be better or at least another comfy chair. Dust - not that clean in certain areas so cleaning still needs to improve. There is quite a lot of noise during the day and the toolyard workers come quite early so not much chance of a lie in if you were wishing to have a relaxing stay and not get up early. Overall we were not impressed with Idris Barn and wont be returning. We also never had a welcome pack provided so it ended up with us contacting sykes when we were almost at the barn to obtain the key information. This was rectified eventually on the phone after calling them numerous times and we did manage to get the information before arrival but we were not impressed with how late we got this. We did receive an apology from the owner who had some personal issues and therefore was not able to provide this information to us in time for our arrival but feel that but Sykes should have been aware of this and ensured that we had the information a day or two before at least not on the arrival day. I have taken photos of the view from the hot tub (of the toolyard) and also of the garden which is not useable to enjoy and is open and not enclosed so I will happily send these photos to you for you to see and feel that you are not representing the property correctly. Kind regards Sarah Beech.
