About this property

Set beneath the dramatic Cader Idris and within striking distance of the Welsh coastline is Cwtch y Ddraig, an exceptional self-catering experience to one of the most beautiful and most sought-after locations in the Snowdonia National Park. Cwtch y Ddraig translates to Hug the Dragon, so you and your loved ones can certainly expect a warm welcome to this stunning part of north-west Wales, coupled with an outstanding interior design, which is sure to leave you with a lasting impression. Entrance to the property is gained via the driveway, shared with the owner’s home before being met by a spacious forecourt with parking for two cars and an opportunity to savour the views. The high ceilings are a striking element to this perfectly proportioned open-plan space; another being the plush seating arrangement, which invites you to relax in front of the Smart TV, providing the evening’s entertainment. Joining the space is the bespoke kitchen suite, where a range of quality appliances are arranged in a contemporary assortment, with a sleek breakfast bar positioned for lingering over a wine as something simmers on the hob. Pop open a bottle of fizz to toast to a magnificent holiday in Wales before relishing in a home-cooked dish or a tasty takeaway from Dolgellau town centre. The master bedroom features a sumptuous king-size bed, complete with a vanity unit, good wardrobe storage and sliding doors, which provides access onto the sheltered patio area. Concluding the interior of the cottage is a spacious family bedroom, boasting a king-size bed and bunk beds, complete with its own TV and necessary furnishings. The garden at Cwtch y Ddraig has been designed as an extension of the house itself, where you can spend sunny afternoons basking in the sun on the patio before heading to the decking to enjoy a spot of alfresco dining. If you can tear yourself away from this tranquil oasis, head into the centre of town, where you will be spoilt for choice by the selection of eateries, including quaint cafés, traditional pubs, takeaways and fine restaurants, in addition to a collection of shops to meander. Those with two-wheels can look forward to exploring the flat Mawddach Trail towards the seaside town of Barmouth or if you are feeling more adventurous, head to the Coed y Brenin Mountain Bike Centre to hurtle down some epic hills with breath-taking scenery. Avid ramblers also have plenty of walks to explore, including the Torrent Walk & Precipice Walk, both of which have been popular since Victorian and Edwardian times; take on the challenge of climbing one of finest mountains in Wales, Cader Idris or there is the Mawddach Trail, which featured on Julia Bradbury’s Railway Walks. The coastline is also within striking distance, where you can spend your days on the soft sandy beaches of Barmouth, Fairbourne and Aberdovey or travel to the magnificent Bala Lake, which is popular for sailing, canoeing and windsurfing. Further afield is the beautiful Italianate-style village of Portmeirion as well as the peak of Snowdon, which is a necessary visit when in the local area. With something to suit everyone, Cwtch y Ddraig is the ultimate base for exploring this part of Wales.
