Step into the hall, hang up your outdoor gear, then go through to the lounge/diner where fabulous estuary and sea views are served up from the picture window daily. Adjacent, the kitchen has more lovely sea views and all the essentials for a fuss-free stay. After dinner, stretch out on comfortable sofas, watch your favourites on the Smart TV and, on cooler evenings, toast your toes before the flame-effect fire. When it’s time to retire, there are two slumber-inducing bedrooms to choose from: a double with sea views and an en-suite shower room, and a twin. A family bathroom completes the comfort for all. Accessed from the lounge, the south-facing balcony is a beautiful spot for food, drinks and sun worship, while the views over tree-tops to the estuary, sea and beach are awesome whatever the weather.
Stroll down to the village; Aberdovey has a fine choice of galleries, shops and eateries, while its shoreline offers miles of sand and dunes to explore. The mountains meet the coastline here and the area is a haven for walkers – pick up the Welsh Coast Path and head 4 miles to the pretty town of Tywyn, a foodies’ delight with a promenade that’s the perfect place for dolphin spotting. Heritage steam engines transport passengers from Tywyn to Nant Gwernol, buried deep in the mountains above Abergynolwyn – the 7-mile journey passes through ancient meadows and woodlands within sight of Cadair Idris.
