Get away from it all in this period cottage in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons), 4 miles from Crickhowell. The property sleeps three guests and makes an idyllic romantic bolthole or a base for a small family, with its rural setting and mountain views. Enjoy exhilarating countryside walks directly from your front door or head a little further to explore the rugged landscape of the Black Mountains.
The characterful cottage is set on a sheep farm, next to the owner’s home. The property is decorated in a traditional style, with antique furniture and quaint accessories, and still retains many of its period features. After a long walk, relax in the lounge with its cosy wood burner and eclectic mix of comfortable seating. Spend time here, reading a book, watching TV or sharing hearty meals at the table by the window. The country cottage-style kitchen is equipped with everything needed for a self-catering holiday. Heading upstairs, you’ll find a galleried landing with a single bed. There is also a family room with a double bed and a single bed, as well as a bathroom on this level. Outside, bask in the sunshine on your private terrace, where you’ll find outdoor furniture and a BBQ.
Crickhowell is a charming Georgian town with a bustling high street and an excellent selection of cosy pubs and independent restaurants. Soak up the local history at the ruins of the 13th-century castle, or climb to the summit of Crug Hywel to admire the Iron Age hillfort and take in the panoramic views. Other walks in and around the town include the long-distance Beacon’s Way and a pretty route following the banks of the River Usk. Nearby days out include Llanthony Priory, Tretower Court and Castle, and the foodie town of Abergavenny (all within 12 miles).
