History of Tenby

Apart from the 4 beautiful sandy beaches to enjoy and the National Park coastal path to explore visitors to Tenby love the history and culture. Referred to as "Little England beyond Wales" dating back to the Norman Conquest when the Normans arrived in Pembrokeshire in 1093 and created the cultural divide between the north and south of the county. It is evident today South Pembrokeshire is much more English than Welsh and North Pembrokeshire the reverse is true. Tenby was very popular during the 18th century when rich families came to bathe and enjoy the sea air to improve their health. Little has changed in Tenby since that time and the town generally remains unspoilt. The 13th century town wall is still intact, the quaint cobbled streets have a variety of shops, galleries, pubs and restaurants. The colourful and picturesque harbour is one of the most photographed of the resorts with the beautiful backdrop of Georgian  and Victorian properties. This is overlooked by Castle Hill where a statue of  Prince Albert, Consort to Queen Victoria proudly stands and then there is Tenby Museum, one of the finest in Wales, a popular visitor attraction.
