Pembrokeshire Cottages

This beautiful stone granary, built in the 17th century, now a fabulous two-storey holiday cottage, is full of charm and character, and retains many interesting features.  It has been sensitively converted and tastefully decorated to create a lovely holiday cottage set in a tranquil country setting.  Attached to the Barn House of the same period, also converted to a dwelling, as is the Stables nearby.  All of which form a truly traditional environment, perfect for relaxing holidays in the beautiful Pembrokeshire countryside.

The Granary being located in the heart of the Pembrokeshire National Park provides a natural setting with a great variety of landscapes including the estuary five minutes walking distance away with views to Lawrenny Quay with its flotilla of boats and the sounds of curlews and other estuarine birds.  The hamlet of West Williamston is a nature reserve and an ideal location for those interested in wildlife and nature, with many species of wading birds, animals and butterflies to see, as well as many local and uncommon plants found on the creeks and saltmarshes along the estuary banks.  This is a wonderful area to explore nature at its best.

Location

West Williamston is a small hamlet of houses that are built of the local limestone and generally date back over 400 years as is the original stone walling which binds the whole as a settlement rooted in its locality.  Ideally situated for walks to local villages.  Cresswell Quay 1.3 miles with pub and quay on the estuary, Carew Newton 1.1 miles and Carew 1.6 miles with pub and restaurant.  Also Carew Castle, striking in its appearance across the vast tidal mill pond, which serves an ancient corn mill - no doubt originally supplied by grain from the Granary.  There is also the well-known Quayside Tearooms at Lawrenny Quay.  Milton has two shops.  By car there are many beaches along the south coast and amazing coastal cliffs around St. Govan's Head.  Inland there is the historic town of Pembroke with its stunning castle.  Good restaurants and pubs are to be found in local villages. There is a range of shops, supermarkets and other facilities in Pembroke Dock, only 7.5 miles away.

West Williamston is in a quiet undiscovered corner of Pembrokeshire, being accessible by land only from the west.  Its characteristic limestone walls and buildings date back beyond the 17th century and the Civil War.  It is situated in farmland which is interlaced by the various tributaries, inlets and ancient lime quarries that adjoin the Creswell and Carew Rivers which in their turn join the Daugleddau estuary.  Carew which is a mile or so away attracts more visitors with its 1270 castle, described 'as one of the most magnificent castles of South Wales', and Carew Inn.  The Tidal Mill with Carew Castle reflecting in its huge millpond is a delightful destination for an easy local walk.  From the various countryside paths and quiet lanes around West Williamston the sounds and sights of a very natural environment can be experienced.
