The Cwmcarn Forest, known for its walking, wildlife-watching and mountain biking, is 8.5 miles away. There is also an adventure playground that children will adore. Venture 13 miles to the fringes of picturesque Bannau Brycheiniog, also known as the Brecon Beacons, with its myriad of opportunities for outdoor adventure. Plan a trip to Cardiff, 16.5 miles away, to wander round the shops, dine out and see the historic fortress of Cardiff Castle, with its Roman walls and Gothic towers. While you are here, take a walk through tranquil Bute Park. Medieval Caerphilly Castle, 8 miles away, is also well worth a visit.

Let yourselves into this gated property via its private entrance that leads into the welcoming kitchen/diner. This cosy space is the perfect place to gather for sociable meals after taking turns to whip up tasty dishes with the fresh local produce you have sourced close by. The kitchen area is well equipped and there is a charming table in the dining space for lively meals, cups of tea and long chats over a bottle of wine. Just off the kitchen/diner is a handy office space where you can open your laptop and catch up on a few emails during your stay. Take a shallow step down to find yourselves in the welcoming lounge. Featuring sections of exposed stonework, this area has been arranged with comfortable seating for your relaxation. Open the French doors in here to bring in a cool breeze on summer days or stoke up the wood burner on chilly evenings. Stream your favourite shows on the Smart TV. Also downstairs is a useful utility room, where you can do your laundry and store your outerwear. As night falls over South Wales, climb the stairs to your bedrooms. Here you have two lovely king-size bedrooms. One of these is especially generous and features wood panelling and an eye-catching four-poster bed. The other has a charming feature fireplace. The single bedroom, which is down two steps, is perfect for a child or solo member of the group. There is a ensuite shower room up here too, as well as a stylish family bathroom with an elegant, freestanding bath and a shower.

Wander out into your beautiful garden to cook on the BBQ and dine on the terrace. There is also a covered seating area where you can sip a glass of fizz as the sun sets. Guests are also very welcome to wander the wider 1.5-acre grounds, with their exquisite pockets of landscaped garden, mature trees and shrubs, and chickens. There is parking for three cars with the cottage. Please note there are some steps inside and out, and access is via an uneven farm track, which may not be suitable for low-chassis cars.
