About this property

Abersoch 1.3 miles. Gwel Y Don is a character cottage, with great views, resting in the small village of Llanengan. Located between Abersoch and the four miles of sand at Porth Neigwl, Gwel Y Don is a traditional yet quirky setting for a family escape to North Wales. You are welcomed to the property with a spacious private driveway, whilst to the side there is a lawned garden with furniture for guests to enjoy an evening of al fresco dining. Stepping into the property, the porch boasts a quirky tiled flooring with patterns, and is also a great spot for leaving any coats and sandy shoes. Moving into the cottage, there is a green-coloured double bedroom to the left, with an antique wardrobe offering storage space to guests wishing to unpack, whilst to your right, there is a triple bunk room. To compliment these lovely bedrooms, there is bookcase wallpaper leading to a shower room which offers a spacious walk-in shower for guests to wash their sandy feet. Finishing the interior of the property, there is an open-plan living space where guests can prepare a picnic in the kitchen, indulge into an evening meal round the dining table after taking full use of the self-catering facilities, or warm your toes by the woodburning stove as you enjoy flicking on the Smart TV. Within the grounds, to the rear of Gwel Y Don, there is a very unique private cave, which at night becomes illuminated, making a really interesting feature for families staying at Gwel Y Don. Llanengan is home to the Grade II listed Chimney which was a former Lead Mine, as well as The Sun Inn pub which serves both food and drink, making for a fantastic evening out. Take a short drive into Abersoch to enjoy a wider range of shops, bars and eateries to spoil everyone for choice, a game of golf at the shoreside course, or get involved with water sports such as windsurfing, water skiing and dinghy sailing. Whilst in the opposite direction, Porth Neigwl is a popular spot for surfing whilst the 16th century National Trust Plas yn Rhiw offers views over the bay and spectacular gardens. The Llyn Peninsula is a popular spot for a beach holiday, with the high cliffs at the quiet Porth Ceriad and many other sandy bays, most of which are owned by the National Trust, as well as wildlife havens like Bardsey Island to explore. For a stunning trip, with beaches to spoil you for choice, choose Gwel Y Don to retire to at the end of a fantastic day.

The attractive harbour village of Abersoch is situated between two bays and is one of the most popular sailing venues in North Wales. There are shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes, as well as a course just outside the village and horse riding facilities. The sandy Abersoch Main Beach is probably the most popular beach, with watersports such as windsurfing, water skiing and dinghy sailing, not to mention surfing at Port Neigwl (Hell's Mouth).
