About this property

Trefor 3.9 miles. Situated in the peaceful Pencaenewydd, near Trefor and the lively Pwllheli is this stunning 17th-century farmhouse, Glasfryn Fawr. The Glasfryn Estate was once the family home of Clough Williams-Ellis whose quirky Italianate village of Portmeirion is only a short drive away, but now offers superb family accommodation for a wonderful break to North Wales at any time of year, with its picture-perfect gardens and traditional farmhouse kitchen making it ideal for a family gathering. With an oil-fired Stanley range and seating for ten in the kitchen/diner, you can make the most of time with loved ones with a delicious meal while you catch up on the day's activities. The sitting room offers somewhere for the group to relax, and in the cooler months, you can light the woodburning stove and cosy up on the plush sofas after a day of exploring the area. When sleep calls, five bedrooms give flexibility for the group, including a ground-floor double with en-suite, ideal for those with limited mobility. The bathroom and further four bedrooms can be found on the first floor and consist of a master super king, a king, and two twins, one of which is a bunk bed so there are plenty of options for a multigenerational family to get some rest. Outside, enjoy a glass of wine with a good book in hand, or dine alfresco in the evenings in the glorious garden, which wraps around the property for an air of privacy. With large lawned gardens and seasonal flowers, including pretty hydrangeas, and a private lake you are surrounded by spectacular scenery with the mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia) in the distance, Glasfryn Fawr is an unbeatable home-from-home for a holiday to remember for years to come. Trefor is a small village surrounded by sea and mountains that overlooks Caernarfon Bay. It has a harbour with a stone breakwater pier and a sheltered sandy beach that the Wales Coastal Path runs past, or the more adventurous can enjoy a regular surf outside the breakwater. The village has a convenience store, a Post Office, and a licenced social club. The Welsh Language and Heritage Centre and restaurant are nearby in the village of Llithfaen. The pretty coastal town of Nefyn, which sits atop sweeping cliffs, is 7.5 miles away and has a fine, two-mile stretch of sandy beach, as well as a good selection of shops, pubs, and restaurants, and the award-winning golf club is popular with families and couples alike.

However we did experience a few issues, mainly with 3 leaks. 2 from the roof and the most awkward being one of the bathrooms. Water was dripping into the small lounge from the shower. We informed the owner, who to be fair sent someone the same day. Unfortunately the bathroom was un-useable due to the leak and spongey floor! The lack of maintenance and care of this property is evident, which is such a shame as the space both inside and out is fantastic. I'm not sure how long the present owner has had the cottage, so maybe he was unaware of some of the issues.
