Guests say

Bwthyn Llechen is a well-regarded apartment in Porthmadog, praised for its excellent location and comfort. Guests appreciate its proximity to local attractions, pet-friendly policy, and the thoughtful touches like guide books and maps. While some minor maintenance issues and cleanliness concerns were noted, the overall sentiment is positive, with many guests expressing a desire to return.

Cleanliness received mixed feedback. Some guests found the apartment spotless, while others reported it needing additional cleaning upon arrival. The majority of comments suggest a generally clean environment, but there is room for improvement.

The location is highly praised for being quiet yet central, close to attractions, and offering private parking. Its proximity to the harbour, shops, and eateries makes it an ideal base for exploring North Wales.

Guests find the apartment comfortable, with a warm and cosy atmosphere. Some minor issues were mentioned, such as the size of the bathroom sink and the positioning of the double bed, but overall, the comfort level is high.

Facilities are generally well-received, with a well-equipped kitchen and good shower pressure. However, there were several reports of maintenance issues like broken beds, leaks, and missing keys, which impacted the score.

While guests appreciated the maps, guide books, and well-equipped kitchen, there were no specific mentions of gifts or extra thoughtful touches that would warrant a score in this category.

About this property

Bwthyn Llechen is a holiday apartment in a pretty, Grade II listed building nestled in the quiet back streets of Porthmadog on the Llŷn Peninsula. Formerly the Slate Wharf manager's house for the Oakley quarry at Ffestiniog, it has now been carefully converted, retaining its fine exterior, into a relaxing, contemporary, spacious holiday apartment all on one level (great for wobbly knees and hips!). If you are keen to reduce your carbon footprint you can arrive by train or bicycle and have masses to do from here without needing a car. Porthmadog is home to the Ffestiniog Railways - hop on a train and visit the slate mines at Llechwedd, travelling through some stunning scenery, or take a Sherpa bus to the foot of Snowdon, going through the pretty village of Beddgelert.

Good cafes and restaurants are all within walking distance - try Hen Fecws! Discover wonderful beaches at Black Rock Sands and pretty coves and bays around the harbour at Borth Y Gest. This apartment is a delight and in the most convenient central location. There is parking for two cars, too. A fabulous place to stay whilst on holiday in North Wales!

The bustling harbour town of Porthmadog lies on the Glaslyn Estuary and enjoys a stunning setting. The gateway to the Snowdonia National Park, Porthmadog is full of individual shops and restaurants, and home to the Ffestiniog Railway, where you can travel by steam through spectacular Snowdonia scenery, to Blaenau Ffestiniog. The pretty village of Borth Y Gest, with its cliffs and coves, is a short walk or drive from the town. The well known and unique Italianate village of Portmeirion is just down the coast. Situated on a rugged clifftop on its own private peninsula, Portmeirion, famous as the location of the TV show The Prisoner and the final episode of Cold Feet, is surrounded by miles of sandy beaches and woodlands. The area also boasts castles at Criccieth and Harlech, and superb unspoilt beaches such as Black Rock Sands, where the sands stretch as far as the eye can see. An ideal location for the attractions of Snowdonia and the The Lleyn Peninsula.

This is a return visit. Fabulous place, great layout on ground floor so on the flat for shops etc. Kitchen is incredibly well equipped and a small welcome pack of Welsh cakes and milk left for which incredibly grateful. Some sachets of tea and coffee provided and lots of useful cleaning stuff and dish washer tablets. Wanted for nothing. Quick shop in local Tesco and I was good to go. Hob, cooker, dishwasher all simple to use. Wonderful location and fabulous walks with eating out suggestions provided in generous welcome folder (on book shelf). Very comfy beds and fairly clean (under sofa cushions were a bit grim and skirtings need a scrub/lick of paint but I hoovered round: no issue for me. A note for housekeeping; sorry I forgot to leave before I checked out. A bulb is gone in the bathroom, light switch in hall is broken and heating was not on on arrival so incredibly cold (and I’m hot blooded!). It took 6 hours to warm living room area up (February to be fair!). Thankfully, I knew where boiler was from a previous stay. The shower was fab but, I couldn’t work out how to get it hotter than lukewarm! I moved boiler to hottest water setting (temporary and only to get shower hot) but it remained resolutely cool. Didn’t spoil my holiday, prob a simple fix that I can’t work out, however, it woke me up in a morning! Bath panel needs replacing as mentioned in visitor book and it stands out in what is a beautifully furnished home. I’m sure you’ll be doing that in low season as you have stated in the book as part of your continual maintenance programme. Thoroughly recommend and hope to return. Very grateful for a week’s rest on my own to recuperate the soul x

In a quiet location even tho just around the corner from town. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed to prep and cook Christmas dinner. If we were to head back to Porthmadog , we’d be happy to stay here again, we really enjoyed our break. Would just mention there’s no hairdryer, useful to know.

Stayed for five nights and didn't use the car once. Steam trip ride and lots of walking. Warm and clean house. Felt cosy. Well equipped. Hope to stay again.
