This property is in a beautiful location and has a lovelygarden, sitting room, and good bedrooms with comfortable beds. However, the general maintenance of the property is poor including the standard of cleanliness: the porch around the front door featured dirty windows & cobwebs; there were areas on the outside walls where the paint was blistering off, and patches of missing plaster. The website has a photo of a huge comfortable outside corner sofa on the decking - this was simply not there! only 2 outside chairs could be found in the whole of the garden. The wooden slats surrounding the floor level area (near the firepit) were in very poor condition - some broken, and all clearly needing revarnishing, and there was a section of plaster missing from the wall near the conservatory door. The wooden summerhouse featured on the website (with a photo of a bar) was unuseable due to the presence of a kayak (not mentioned), a pile of plastic covered cushions, and was in a very dirty condition. This meant we effectively had one room less for our use during our stay: it had been one of the reasons I'd booked it as it looked out onto the hills and surrounding area. there was a patch of bare plaster, and one of the windows had a broken blind, which when we tried to raise it was found to conceal months' worth of unwashed windows. The cupboard in one bedroom had a broken drawer front which fell off when I tried to open it. The main bathroom cupboard contained large tins of paint dated November 2021 - not what I expect in a holiday property for which I paid top whack during the summer holidays for a special holiday with my grandchildren and extended family. The owner responded to a complaint to Original Cottages on the Monday by sending window cleaners a couple of days later - this was an improvement. However, the day before we were due to depart, I received a text from the owner at 8am saying that his maintenance person would be arriving in 10 minutes to clear the summerhouse, look at the blind, and at a broken lock on an external door. He could easily have given me 24 hrs notice as advised in the property guide, but did not show me this courtesy. While I was taking some of my family to the railway station, the workman - who was simply doing what he had been asked to do by his employer - cleared the garden sunroom - not much use to us for our last day as we had plans to be out and about. He also undertook tasks which should absolutely not have been undertaken with people resident in the property: he spent an hour fixing arms to the new settee in the sitting room. I was driving people to the local railway station and was very surprised to find him still at the property on my return. This was clearly for the benefit of incoming holiday makers who would be arriving the following day, and was an intrusion on our privacy. I was not impressed.
