Llandudno is a popular tourist destination because of its location between two headlands, the Great Orme and the Little Orme, and its proximity to the water on both the Atlantic and the Irish Sea sides of the town. Both the North Shore, with its wide promenade and imposing crescent of Victorian hotels, and the West Shore, with its miles of sandy shoreline, sand dunes, and superb views toward Anglesey, are excellent options for visitors to the town. However, the best views can be had from the top of the 679-foot Great Orme, which can be reached via the Great Orme Tramway or an exciting cable car ride of more than a mile's length. Venue Cymru, North Wales' premier theatrical stage for opera, ballet, musicals, comedy, and visiting orchestras, boasts a programme that is second to none, and it is located just steps away from the promenade in this bustling seaside town. The town of Conwy, itself a World Heritage Site, is only 5 miles away. Conwy, a true mediaeval gem, is dominated by a magnificent castle and is completely encircled by its remarkably well-preserved city walls. There is a lot to see and do in North Wales, from the miles of sandy beaches along the coast to the excellent hiking and climbing in Snowdonia National Park.
