Guests say

Ty Christian is a charming, characterful cottage in a peaceful rural setting, ideal for those seeking tranquillity and a homely atmosphere. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, cosy log burner, and enclosed garden, making it especially suitable for dog owners. The host is noted for being friendly and communicative. While some guests mention the cottage could benefit from a little TLC and deeper cleaning, most found it comfortable and enjoyed exploring the beautiful surrounding area and nearby coast. The property offers a unique, rustic experience with plenty of local information provided for visitors.

Reviews are mixed regarding cleanliness. Several guests found the cottage clean and comfortable, but others reported issues such as cobwebs, dust, and areas needing a deep clean, particularly in the bathroom and kitchen. Some mentioned dirty linen and mould in the fridge. Overall, cleanliness is adequate but could be improved.

The location is widely praised for its peace, quiet, and beautiful rural surroundings. Guests enjoyed the proximity to the coast and local attractions, though a car is essential due to the remote setting and lack of amenities within walking distance. Some noted the narrow access lane, but most found the setting ideal for a relaxing break.

Guests generally found the cottage cosy and homely, with comfortable beds and a welcoming atmosphere. However, some mentioned issues with heating, uncomfortable seating, and limited hot water. The electric blanket and log burner were appreciated during colder stays.

The kitchen is well-equipped and the garden is a highlight for many, especially dog owners. However, some guests experienced maintenance issues such as unreliable hot water, a dripping tap, small TV, and intermittent or non-existent WiFi. The property would benefit from some updates and repairs.

The host is frequently described as friendly and attentive, often calling to check on guests. Some guests received thoughtful touches such as fresh eggs, but these are not guaranteed. Local information and clear directions are provided, enhancing the guest experience.

My two search criteria when looking for a dog friendly cottage were 1. WiFi2. Enclosed gardenDespite advertising both, neither were the case.I had a call a couple of days before arrival (too late to cancel) to say 'WiFi is intermittent, BT been out numerous times, sorry'. Well..'intermittent' was significantly overstating the truth. There's very little connection for mobile data either. Good job I didn't need to work!Enclosed garden..again..yes it is a garden with a fence around it but you access it from a side gate, not directly from the house and the fence on the side by the lane is not adequate for a young border collie. Moving on...All in all the cottage is cute but rathershabby. A modest investment could make it pretty special though. Good- Kitchen very well equipped.Double bed comfy enough.Less good-Loo seat not attached to the toilet.Hot water is VERY 🔥..beware!I'm sorry to be so down on this place. We had a lovely holiday despite arriving to dirty linen on the bed (no-one told the cleaner we were coming)...but we were OK with that. Hey ho, mistakes get made. Its the imaginative advertising that was most annoying.

I thought very carefully about what to say in this review.First the good: we really liked the cottage itself - it had the sort of character we like.Second the not so good: the photos are rather deceptive - the property is amongst others, in fact the nearest is exactly opposite on the other side of the lane....and this was the reason we left after one night!Thirdly, and still on not so good: the heating was not working. We woke up to a very chilly cottage - all the radiators had notices warning against fiddling with them. The owner has told us that she tried to phone us the evening we arrived, and would have instructed us how to turn them on.....Which brings me to Fourthly (and still bad!): the internet was not working - the owner warned us before we went it was 'not working properly', we thought perhaps it was working 'a bit', but no it was dead.....and with it the phone too!Now to the reason we left after just one night: the person in the cottage opposite I mentioned above went out and left his two dogs to bark loudly (so loud that with all the windows and doors closed and my noise-cancelling headphones on I could still hear it!) We stood it for a few hours, but it didn't stop......so we up and left. Not really the owners fault, but something to bear in mind.....this is not necessarily the haven of tranquility one might imagine. The owner has not offered any refund....we have not asked for one.
