About this property

Llandovery 4.5 miles. Situated on the outskirts of the pretty village of Cilycwm, close to the thriving market town of Llandovery, is this superb converted hayloft in a 19th century stone barn, part of a traditional farm courtyard. Accessed via twelve stone steps leading up to the front door, be welcomed into a spacious split level, open-plan living space. It is furnished with a mixture of antiques and original quirky features, including exposed A Frame beams and has been Graded as four stars, by Visit Wales. Relax and unwind into the evening, curled up in the chesterfield armchairs catching up with your favourite shows, spinning 78s on the original 1920s gramophone, spending some quality time together. Enjoy mountain views and sunsets from the south facing balcony. This is a designated dark skies area and you stay cosy in front of the outside wood burner, enjoying the starry night sky. The kitchen is well-equipped with everything you could need to rustle up some delicious meals, to be enjoyed at the dining table over a sparkling glass of wine whilst you plan the days ahead. Once the evening draws to a close, retire to the quirky hand carved double sized luxury cabin bed located towards the rear of the room, and get some much needed rest for the day's ahead. There is a beautiful stained glass window in the cabin bed, overlooking the barn below. The hayloft was converted by a previous artist owner so that she could keep an eye on her mare in the foaling barn below – but you can now enjoy this retreat to yourselves as there are no longer any animals in the barn. The original country house style large bathroom has hand painted wallpaper, original tiles and an elegant bath so you can have a relaxing soak at the end of a tiring day. There are miles of walks from the door across the owners’ private land to waterfalls, hidden river valleys and into the Cambrian Mountains beyond. There’s a short walk from the property to the local village pub. While you're in the area, make sure to visit the market towns of Llandovery, Llandeilo and Brecon which offer a large selection of pubs and restaurants for that fine dining experience, as well as a number of independent shops and supermarkets for picking up any last-minute essentials. For a spot of history, visit Llandovery Castle, a late 13th century castle, also a Grade II* listed building and is well-worth a visit. Carmarthenshire is home to more castles than the Royal Family and the Reading Room is a short drive from The Botanic Gardens of Wales, Aberglasney, and National Trust properties Dinefwr, and the Dolaucothi goldmines. Just a short drive away are the stunning beaches of the south and west coast. You are just three miles from the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park for a range of countryside sites, where you can walk, cycle and take some stunning drives into beautiful mountain wilderness. Also nearby are many lakes and rivers where you can get involved with some watersports activities. The Reading Room is an excellent base for couples seeking a rural escape. There are three large stone barns in the traditional courtyard, including the owners’ farmhouse next door. The farm is non-working.
