Hidden away in the beautiful Cothi Valley, with the Afon Pib (River Pib) forming a gently murmuring backdrop, Neptune the Mongolian ger invites you to embrace nature, take a step back, relax and unwind. With stunning views of the beautiful Brechfa Forest, and gently guarded by a herd of alpacas, this hideaway is perfect for families, cyclists or just those who want to relax in a retreat with a difference.

Lovingly built and handcrafted from locally-sourced wood, Neptune combines elegant beauty with luxurious comfort. This traditional hideaway is furnished with a comfortable double bed and a day bed that can quickly and easily convert into two full-size single beds. Dressed with cushions and blankets made from the fleece of "your" alpaca, Neptune, one of the alpacas that share the site, and with a wood burning stove, you will be kept warm and cosy during your stay. At night, if it’s a little cool outside, you can draw the curtains, snuggle down and take advantage of the fabulous dark skies and indulge in a spot of star-gazing through the clear crown skylight. A mini-kitchen area houses a camp cooker with kettle, pots, pans and everything you need to rustle up a simple meal. There is also a state-of-the-art cool box with ice packs that will keep foods cool for up to 72 hours.

Outside, there is plenty of seating around the Indian kadai firebowl as well as a picnic table with bench seating. This sociable space is the perfect place to chill out while someone else does the cooking. The firebowl is big enough to cook for 10 people, so if a group of you have booked, communal dining isn’t a problem. The herbs generously planted around the ger are readily available for you to add flair and flavour to your culinary masterpieces.

The wide meadow area in front of the ger has been eco-sensitively managed to encourage wildlife and butterflies. Paths are mown through it while the rest is left to grow untamed and this wind-rippled grass sea comes alive in summer with the hum of bees and insects. The paths lead down towards the play area near the river (which is securely and safely fenced off with stock-proof fencing and rabbit wire). This is the perfect space for children – far enough away for them to feel some independence, but located to ensure you can keep a watchful eye on your little ones. There’s even a selection of toys to keep them entertained, should they tire of bug-spotting or adventuring.

In the fabulous facilities block, you’ll find a kitchenette with shared fridge and freezer, a microwave and kettle and complimentary tea, coffee and sugar, plus a sink with hot and cold running water where you can do your washing-up. There is a private bathroom for the yurt, this includes; a shower, basin and private flushing WC. There is also an additional flushing WC. For those late-night visits, there are two additional state-of-the-art waterless WCs located near the gers, with solar powered battery lighting – the access paths are lit as you approach.

Your alpaca

Neptune is stately and elegant and although he is, like all the alpacas, gentle and welcoming, he is also very protective and makes an excellent guard for the flock of rare-breed chickens you will see about the site. His soft grey fleece has been spun into wool which has been woven into the blanket that dresses your bed.

You are warmly encouraged to introduce yourself to "your" alpaca!
