About this property

The Old Barracks is a contemporary, first-floor apartment set in a historic Grade II listed building in Beaumaris, Anglesey. Sitting a stone's throw away from the beach and local amenities, this lovely abode is suitable for families, friends, and couples hoping to explore Anglesey. A bright and airy open-plan living space welcomes you inside where you can cook in comfort in the well-equipped kitchen area, dine at the breakfast bar for four, and relax in the sitting area with a TV (Smart TV connected to internet) and woodburning stove. The apartment has been thoughtfully decorated throughout with two double bedrooms with plenty of wardrobe space, along with a family shower room. Start your mornings in your outdoor seating area to plan the day's adventures over a hearty breakfast. You'll find plenty on your doorstep in the town of Beaumaris, home to The Midland Tapas and Wine Bar, Pier House Cafe and Bistro, and The Bold Arms pub, while local attractions include the 13th-century Beaumaris Castle, Beaumaris Pier and beach, and boat trips out to Puffin Island. There are plenty of sandy beaches along Anglesey's gorgeous coast such as Traeth Lleiniog, Llanddona Beach, and Red Wharf Bay, and nearby towns include Menai Bridge, Llanfair PG, and Newborough (Niwbwrch) are all within easy reach. Crossing over the Menai Bridge, you'll find the royal town of Caernarfon with its World Heritage fortress, as well as Bangor and Penrhyn Castle & Garden. A variety of outdoor activities await in the Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, whether that's hiking through meadows to Aber Falls, or enjoying panoramic views at the top of Carnedd Llewelyn. There's so much to discover in North Wales with a stay at The Old Barracks.

Beaumaris is a historic town on Anglesey overlooking the Menai Strait and Snowdonia, making for stunning sunrises. With its World Heritage-listed mediaeval castle, Victorian pier, gaol, and courthouse, it's a major yachting centre. Beaumaris' mediaeval street pattern has been preserved. Setting, architectural styles and periods, scale, open spaces, roofs, and quality contribute to the town's character. The town has shops, restaurants, pubs, fishing, boating, and a golf course. Red Wharf Bay, also known as Traeth Coch (Red Beach), is famous for its sunsets. At low tide, 25 square kilometres (10 square miles) of sand are exposed, providing safe bathing, family fun, fishing, and miles of scenic walks. Holyhead has ferry connections to Dublin. Beaumaris, on the south coast of Anglesey, is a good base for touring Wales and is close to Snowdonia.

I felt it was let down by a few factors, which definitely impacted on our stay. The flat has very basic fixtures and fittings. The following are things we felt let it down: No freezer compartment in fridge Lack of kitchen equipment No mirrors/ make up space in bedrooms No hairdryer Only one mirror in the bathroom The bed in the smaller bedroom was very uncomfortable, with springs being felt. No local info provided We also felt the bathroom needed to be refurbished. Compared to the lovely living space and kitchen, it looked very shabby and tired

It took a trip to the Spar to buy cleaning products as there weren’t any in the property. 4 tea bags, no sugar. A pint of milk was the welcome pack. Not really a nice little touch. No live tv - only catch up. These issues have been noted by previous visitors. Clearly no goodwill from the owner as weeks after my stay not even an offer of partial refund for all the cleaning I did on their behalf. Beaumaris is lovely though, so we had a good stay overall.

We would have liked a teapot and hook on the back of bathroom door. We got frustrated with the TV, only able to get catch up, not live programmes. Also getting a message that we weren't connected to the Internet. But all in all a good place to stay.
