About this property

Stornoway 33.4 miles. Situated on the southern shores of the stunning Loch Roag on the Isle of Lewis, 5 Riof is a simply extraordinary, cedar-clad holiday lodge which offers the ultimate in peace and tranquillity. Suitable for families or couples holidaying together, the property has been lovingly and tastefully renovated to present beautiful accommodation both inside and out. The amazing aspect over the loch forms the backdrop of this truly memorable property and the redesign has been undertaken with maximising the lochside views an obvious priority. Inside the layout is open plan and flexible with a spacious living room, kitchen and dining room. A spectacular feature of the property is the bi-folding doors which open out from the living room, dining area and master bedroom, onto an attractive and well-built decking area offering splendid views of Loch Roag. The living area houses a range of sumptuous seating, a wall-mounted TV and a feature woodburning stove whilst the fully equipped kitchen offers all the facilities needed to rustle up a mouth-watering menu so guests can make the most of the fabulous local produce on offer. The open-plan nature of the ground-floor means that even cooking can be a sociable occasion! Upstairs, there is a master king-sized bedroom with en-suite bathroom complete with a freestanding bath and walk-in shower. A twin bedroom and a family shower room finish the first-floor accommodation. Outside, there is plenty of outdoor space and even a garage ideal for safe storage. Kayaking on Loch Roag is an extremely popular pastime and there are even more thrilling watersport activities to be had further along the coastline so you can fill your boots (or wetsuits!) with everything from surfing and paddle boarding to coasteering. Or for something a little more sedate, what about a walk along the fabulous Riof beach or why not check out the miles of flower-covered dunes within just a short drive? Look out for local wildlife including seals, otters, eagles and even dolphins. In season, there are a number of fantastic restaurants and cafes serving a wonderful selection of local produce and attractions such as the Callanish Stone Circles and Great Bernera are a short but scenic drive. Stornoway is about an hour's drive with Tarbert in Harris slightly further and both are ferry terminals linking the island to the mainland and Skye. If you love the great outdoors and want to get away from it all whilst enjoying a beautiful lakeside setting, then 5 Riof certainly ticks all the boxes.

Stornoway is the only town in the Outer Hebrides and is a bustling and growing area with a busy working harbour, a great selection of shops selling local gifts including Harris Tweed, leisure facilities and wonderful award-winning restaurants selling locally sourced food of the highest quality. Lewis is a place where the lilting Gaelic language is spoken everywhere! Visitors to the town will find plenty to keep them occupied, the magnificent Lews Castle Grounds and the iconic Lews Castle, many good museums and art galleries and also a smart golf course and clubhouse. The large, quiet sandy beaches are close by and provide visitors with wonderful views and the town itself forms a great base for a holiday exploring the unique islands that form the Outer Hebrides. On the north west side of Lewis you can visit the village of Arnol with its Blackhouse Museum, an unmissable visit for anyone wanting to understand the way of life that was once widespread in Lewis. Carloway Broch is nearby and is another fascinating landmark and incredibly well preserved. The Callanish Stones from the Neolithic are also well worth visiting. The whalebone arch and numerous Iron Age dwellings on stunning Bosta beach make for great days out. The friendliness of the local people will astound visitors to the islands and you cannot fail to be impressed with the genteel and contented pace of life you will encounter here.
