The Old Farmhouse occupies a magnificent location on Loch Lomond and offers an oasis of luxury and peace on a secluded working farm, the house provides eco-friendly accommodation with one of the finest views from a self-catering property.
All the rooms (except the bathrooms) and the front decked area enjoy a panorama of the largest loch in Britain and Scotland’s most southerly Munro, Ben Lomond. Ospreys nest near the farm in summer and provide great entertainment as they fish in front of the house, but extensive birdlife is constant all year and deer, badgers, pine martens and red squirrels are residents, experience the stunning scenery of Loch Lomond and its islands by taking a speedboat tour with Chris from the farm’s pier, or take a picnic to the islands, arrange a champagne cruise, or visit by boat one of the many loch-side pubs and restaurants. There is much to learn from your hosts about the history and ecology of the farm, the loch and its islands - kayaks, or SUP (paddleboards) are available for hire or bring your own, for a small weekly rent, you can moor a boat on the farm.
Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Stirling are easy day trips by car or public transport. Glen Coe, Inveraray and Oban make for a great day of exploration and the West Highland Railway Line – one of the most scenic railways in the world – stops at Dumbarton – and many visitors chose to explore part of the route to Oban, Fort William or Mallaig. Our local distilleries (Glengoyne and Auchentoshan) are less than 20 miles away and offer a range of tours for beginners or connoisseurs of the liquid gold.
Known as the gateway to the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, Balloch sits at the south end of Loch Lomond and is on the main road connecting Glasgow to the Western Highlands. Its popularity as a tourist town grew in the 19th century with the increasing number of boats arriving to tour the Loch, as well as foot passengers by rail from Glasgow. Today there are many boats that will tour the loch from Balloch including the elegant paddle steamer The Maid of The Loch. The Loch Lomond Shores shopping complex has a wide range of outlets and cafes and there is also an aquarium and Balloch Castle Country Park with its 200 acres of woodland. As well as the majestic loch, the surrounding scenery includes superb walking and cycling and Ben Lomond at 3196 feet is the most southerly of the Munros. Glasgow and Stirling are both within easy reach and provide a great day trip whether it’s to see castles, galleries or to indulge in superb shopping and dining.

The owners have literally thought of everything you might need, but have never compromised on quality. The mattresses and bedlinen were so comfortable. The kitchen had everything you might need and more. The owners gave us really helpful advice on places to go and where to eat and checked in regularly, to make sure everything was ok for us. I feel a little spoiled now, and will always be comparing other self- catering bookings against this incredibly high standard. I really hope we do get the opportunity to visit again.

Every aspect of the process was effortless and very well run so I wouldn't hesitate to make further bookings through Sykes. As for the property itself, it was exactly what we were looking for. The view is stunning and really something to wake up to every morning and sit gazing out on from the dining table each mealtime. Even though our visit was over the New Year period, the amazing insulation meant it was perfectly cosy with great underfloor heating and a log burner in the living room to keep us nice and toasty even when it was freezing outside. The kitchen is especially well considered with your every requirement catered for, and I would strongly recommend purchasing a joint of the fantastic organic beef they rear on the farm to roast! The family who run the farm and let the cottage are so welcoming and hospitable with a great knowledge of the area if you need any advice on where to explore. You only have to read all the other reviews to realise that this would be a perfect choice for a stay in Lock Lomond, and we really can't wait to go back.
