Bordering the banks of the River Tweed, this charming country house blends original features with contemporary style. With three bedrooms and extensive gardens this is the ideal property for families seeking a comfortable base to return to after a day of activities in the Scottish Borders. The picturesque village of Tweedsmuir is an excellent location for walkers, cyclists and wildlife watching to explore the landscape that inspired Robert Burns. This former schoolmaster’s house is a lovely property, full of original features dating back to its former life as the schoolmaster’s home with original wooden shutters, high ceilings and stone fireplaces.
The River Tweed runs along the bottom of the large garden and the sound of its gentle babbling can be heard from the sound creating a soothing environment. Step into the front hall with its wonderful period hat and umbrella stand, stripped wooden floor and intriguing artwork. Relax in the spacious living room with large bay window overlooking the gardens. On cooler evenings snuggle up on one of the inviting sofas in front of the wood burner. Prepare family meals in the contemporary kitchen/diner and breakfast at the kitchen table. Share leisurely meals at the elegant table in the formal dining room.
Take the stairs to the first floor where you will find the three well-appointed bedrooms, all with inviting beds dressed in crisp linens and co-ordinating soft furnishings. The spacious king-size master bedroom has an en-suite shower room. There is a pretty double and twin bedroom and indulgent family bathroom with claw-foot bath. Heading back down the stairs to the basement level you will find a handy utility room. For quieter moments, curl up in the snug/library with a good read and the logs blazing in the wood burner. The house is set in large gardens with plenty of space for games on the lawn or an alfresco picnic lunch. Enjoy a peaceful moment on the riverbank seating area. In the evening dine al fresco at the garden table and enjoy the pretty views. There is private parking.
