"I stayed at the Byre in October 2018 with my 11 year old daughter. The cottage was gorgeous, with a beautiful view of Aisla Isle and Arran on a clear day. Sheila was extremely welcoming and helpful! Ballantrae has everything we needed - a pub where we had a lovely meal, a well stocked store, garden centre and of course, the stunning coast!"

"Recently stopped at the Byre and must say what a fantastic property. To clarify these are detached properties essentially, the interconnecting door is outside. The property is set in an ideal location overlooking ballantrae about a mile away and although is on farm land we were not disturbed by any going on from the farm. The owner Sheila was on hand to answer any queries and made life easier for us by supplying a high chair and travel cot. we were even given a tour of the farm which made our holiday as our little boy adores animals. The property itself is spotlessly clean and has been finished to a high standard with all the essentials you would expect and more. I would have no hesitations about booking again and fully expect to return in the near future"

    "Fantastic..will be back."

"Had been a little concerned to read previous reviews saying cottage looked ‘tired’ and that surroundings were ‘barren’. How pleasant therefore to arrive and find that neither were representative of what we found. Cottage far from tired, but clean, spacious homely and cosy, with beautiful interior decor. As for barren – yes, there were weeds in the field beyond the outside seating area – but it was just that – a field on a working farm. The views of Ailsa Craig and scenery on approaching and leaving the cottage are stunning. Would highly recommend a stay at The Byre where you are guaranteed a warm welcome by the family."

"Wow what a fantastic family holiday we had at this beautiful farm, the accommodation was lovely and modern and the location spectacular, our children loved feeding the calves on the farm and was made to feel very welcome, we went on quite a few day trips and spent time on different beautiful beaches, but we would have still found lots to see and do nearby if we had stayed local, our only disappointment was that we didn’t book for longer. we would definitely recommend to other families."

"The accommodation is nicely finished and has all the amenities you would expect. The outdoor space wasn't great, it was a bit barren and surrounded by weeds. We chose it because we expected access to the coastal path and local beaches, but the path had been diverted inland and paths locally weren't great. Ballantrae has some useful facilities but isn't particularly scenic.A better coastal path in South Ayrshire would be an attractive feature for the area generally. The owners of the property were friendly and helpful and we were offered the chance to help feed the calves which was lovely. Any slight snags were dealt with.I think the property is a bit on the expensive side. However, it is also very quiet and peaceful, and the view of the sea was really nice to have."

"This is a comfortable cottage needs a few repairs now as getting a little tired, still of a high standard. Can I suggest the inclusion of a suggestions book where guests can input what they would like to see ie grab rail at toilet for the elderly radio in kitchen king size bed instead of a double Would definitely come here again."

"Lovely, clean cottage with everything you need. Children enjoyed going to the top of the hill for a beautiful view. Centrally located for Stranraer and Girvan. Hosts very welcoming and helpful. Hope to be back."

"Great property with good amenities. Peaceful location.Only criticism too many plates, wine glasses and picnic goods leaving little room for foodstuffs. Saucepans and frying pans need replacing."
