Situated on the Ayrshire coastal path, this coastline is steeped in history and teeming with wildlife, including red squirrels, deer, otters and seals, and is a haven for bird watchers. You can walk along the coast and directly into the Culzean Castle Estate and onto the village of Maidens, where you can stop for a coffee before continuing onto Turnberry Lighthouse for a spot of lunch. The world famous Turnberry golf course is only a 10-minute drive where you can enjoy a round of golf, fine dining or indulge in a luxury spa.

The town of Girvan is just a short drive away and boat trips can be taken out to Ailsa Craig to watch the nesting birds or for fishing trips. The town also has shops and a leisure centre with swimming pool. Ayrshire is also known as ’Burns’ Country’, here you can visit Burns Cottage, The Burns Memorial Museum and the Brig o’ Doon, the bridge from the famous poem Tam o’ Shanter. The area has many ruined castles to explore, such as Dunure, Turnberry and Greenan. A visit and tour to Culzean Castle, designed by Robert Adams and truly one of his masterpieces, is one not to be missed with its dramatic clifftop location. Also worth a visit is the 18th-century Dumfries House, part of the Prince’s Foundation, which is home to an unrivalled collection of Chippendale furniture. The 2000-acre estate has been beautifully designed with stunning walks throughout the grounds.

The Galloway Forest Park is only a 30-minute drive away and is Britain’s largest forest park with 300 square miles of wild beauty waiting to be explored. The park boasts tranquil valleys, rugged rock faces, forest, moorland, lochs and ancient woodland and a huge diversity of wildlife. The park has also been awarded the status of one of only four dark sky parks in the western world and when the sun sets enthusiasts come to wonder at the universe revealed above.

The pretty seaside towns of Ayr, Prestwick and Troon are also close by and day trips to the islands of Cumbrae, Arran and Bute are all easily reached. Day trips to Ireland can also be taken from Cairnryan. Beach 100 yards.

We have just returned from a wonderful week at Harbour View. The apartment was comfortable, clean and well presented. Linda, our host, was lovely and helpful with any questions we had. The location of the apartment was perfect. Dunure is beautiful, with its small harbour, beach, stunning coastline and Castle all on your doorstep. On a clear day you have views of both Arran and Ailsa Craig. The apartment enjoys stunning views of the harbour and the coastline beyond from every window. The village is small and quiet but well served by a wonderful little cafe, The Harbourside, which is just next door. Always busy, it was the perfect place for breakfast or lunch. Service was excellent, the staff warm and friendly, I can see why it’s such a popular place. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. I can highly recommend their cakes and scones, they are not to be missed! The pub, The Anchorage, also next door, was equally as good. We ate there most evenings and the food was fantastic, I can highly recommend their seafood dishes and the steaks. Personally I would go somewhere else for a Sunday Roast though as although delicious it was very small and not what we expected. Also worth a mention is the lovely gift shop in the village. It’s full of gorgeous gifts and locally produced art and decorative items. The owner was lovely and took time out to chat about the area and the local artist of the lovely print we purchased there. Definitely worth a visit, it is open Wednesday to Sunday 10 - 4pm. I would highly recommend Dunure and Harbour View. You won’t be disappointed.

Absolutely stunning location. The harbour is small but edged on both sides by beach, standing on the edge of the beach your whole view is the sea. The beach is mostly pebbles which means the water is very clear. When the tide is out, there are a wealth of rock pools (brimming with small sea life) to explore. The food in the pub and cafe were excellent, both with very friendly staff. The accomodation itself was large and open, with comfortable beds and sofas. The kitchen was well equipped and very clean. The garden terrace was excellent in the evening for star gazing, and would be perfect for sunbathing in the day (if this is your preference). We stayed in summer with two children (late primary school and early high school), both eager to go back next year!

Fantastic stay at a very well equipped and comfortable cottage.Location was ideal, with amazing views from all the windows. We took advantage of eating meals at the local cafe and restaurant, both of which offered great food choices at very reasonable prices. Communication with the owner was helpful and very friendly 🙂 Would not hesitate in recommending this place to family and friends.
