The Coach House in the Scottish Borders offers a peaceful and scenic getaway with a charming central courtyard. Guests appreciate the spacious accommodation, friendly hosts, and the property's proximity to historic sites and natural beauty. While some guests mention issues with comfort and maintenance, the overall experience is positive, with many looking forward to returning.
The property generally receives high praise for cleanliness, with several guests describing it as 'spotlessly clean'. However, a few guests noted areas for improvement, such as window cleanliness and cobwebs, slightly lowering the score.
The location is highly regarded for its tranquillity, proximity to historic sites, and beautiful scenery. Guests enjoy the peaceful setting and the convenience of being within driving distance of attractions, contributing to a high score.
Comfort receives mixed reviews. While some guests find the house warm and the setting comfortable, others mention hard beds and uncomfortable furniture. The presence of a log burner and spacious rooms are positives, but the comfort of the beds and seating impacts the score.
Facilities are well-received, with mentions of a well-equipped kitchen and utility room. However, some guests report issues with shower pressure, heating, and a lack of information on property amenities. Maintenance concerns slightly reduce the score.
While guests mention thoughtful touches like milk and biscuits provided upon arrival, there are not enough references to gifts or additional thoughtful gestures to accurately score this category. Therefore, the score is set to null, and it should be noted that such gestures are not guaranteed.

The village of Chirnside occupies an elevated position overlooking the River Tweed and offers stunning views across the magnificent Cheviot Hills. A number of interesting landmarks depict the village's long history, including a 16th Century dovecot and a beautiful parish church, believed to date back to the 12th Century. Each summer, the Jim Clark Rally, the only 'closed roads' race on mainland Britain, takes place in and around Chirnside as a memorial to the village's home born champion. Just 9 miles away lies the charming, coastal town of Berwick, boasting narrow streets enclosed within Elizabethan walls, excellent shopping and dining facilities and an interesting arts centre. The local area affords fantastic fishing, golf and riding opportunities and a fun-packed leisure centre, whilst the nearby resort of Spittal offers soft, sandy beaches, ideal for a relaxing afternoon.

The owner and her daughter were very friendly and responded to request for extra blanket, instructions re heating and replacement of a broken lamp. The home made chutney and marmalade were also greatly appreciated. As has been said in earlier reviews the bed was extremely hard and uncomfortable which was not good. Also there were continuous problems with the heating system. One of the radiators did not work at all and the thermostats on the others were not responsive to alteration. The daughter advised us how to manage the system but the promised work on the defunct radiator never happened. There were no instructions for the heating or for the log burning stove which we failed to get to work. No kindling was left and the door of the stove was caked with soot. Overall the living room felt quite dark and depressing and a light on was needed throughout the day. The dark brown, mismatched furniture did not help to cheer up the place. The property had a very high standard of cleanliness so in conclusion there were lots of positives but a number of negatives as stated.

The setting is amazing. Itâs beautiful what the owners have done with the old courtyard space. The house itself is perfectly well equipped and loads of space for two people. Location is extremely good for easy access to the abundance of interesting tourist destinations in the area. Both felt perfectly happy and relaxed, and are already looking at dates to book again in 2026. Thank you.

Property extremely good and quiet. Their dogs are obviously there for guarding the property; they got out and cornered my husband. Not a place if you are nervous of dogs.
