About this property

Come and stay in our comfortable double bedroom self-catering holiday home in the grounds of our own cottage.  Once part of the Grantully Castle estate, our ex-undergardener's property has been tastefully modernised to provide a relaxing retreat from city life, but still only 3 miles from Aberfeldy.  Perfect for couples, we offer a secluded and delightful spring and summer's stay, but the double-glazing and oil-fired central heating make this a year-round destination.  Situated on the road between Aberfeldy and Ballinluig, we are ideally placed for all of Highland Perthshire's attractions.

Once owned by the Stewarts of Grantully, Garden Cottage and its Bothy were the walled garden for the Castle, producing fruit and vegetables for the estate up until 1945. Sadly the massive old greenhouses have gone, but the garden remains. Set in three acres, all of which you are more than welcome to explore, the Bothy is more than just a cottage. Behind the Bothy is our main garden, where we grow mainly fruit and vegetables for our table. We have planted an orchard with some 60 trees and many soft fruits in various stages of growth - Right at the top we have built a shepherd's hut complete with outdoor games area. We are constantly adding to the trees and plants to add to the attraction of this unique place. The best views are from the top garden, which is where the sun lingers most. Finally, there is an acre or so of meadow to the east where we are in the process of planting more trees to make a woodland - this is a good place for picnics in the summer.

This part of the upper Tay valley is well known for all sorts of active sports, kayaking and watersports from Aberfeldy, canyoning and similar activities based in Ballinlluig, fishing, and all grades of walking in the Lawers range just a few miles west and around Schiehallion to the north. Somewhat less strenuous is the Birks of Aberfeldy and the beautiful Cluny Gardens, just over the Tay from us. If that sounds a bit too much, then there are some splendid cafes and restaurants all within very easy reach in Aberfeldy itself, at Grandtully and at Weem.

Further afield, but still close for a days outing, are Kenmore and Loch Tay, Dunkeld, Pitlochry, Blairgowrie, Blair Atholl and of course Perth itself. The Bothy at Garden Cottage is well placed for access to all that Highland Perthshire offers.

The accommodation comprises:

A small area for hanging coats, then into the main living space which is completely open plan, with solid oak flooring. The well-equipped kitchen has all you are likely to want with electric oven and ceramic hob, washing machine and dishwasher.

The living area is furnished with leather seating and has an open fire for comfortable nights in. There is a freesat TV and DVD player with a selection of DVDs to cater for most tastes. The lounge area has a view over the garden.

The bedroom is situated next to the lounge and has built-in cupboards and wardrobe.  It also has a garden view.  A small shower room with WC and handbasin is next to that.

Outside is the garden which has seating and a small table for meals. The meadow area leads off this garden, and the main growing area is also accessed by gate to the south. You are more than welcome to wander in the garden but don't be surprised by the chickens!

We are 100 yards or so off the A827 up a track past our cottage. There is parking outside the Bothy.
