Guests say

River Cottage receives glowing praise for its tranquil riverside setting, abundant wildlife, and peaceful atmosphere. Guests consistently highlight the cottage’s cleanliness, stylish decor, and well-equipped facilities. The location is ideal for those seeking relaxation, scenic walks, and nature, with red squirrels and birds frequently spotted. Hosts are described as welcoming and considerate, adding thoughtful touches to enhance the stay. While a few guests noted the cottage is compact for four adults and somewhat remote from amenities, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, making it a highly recommended retreat for couples, families, and nature lovers.

Multiple reviews describe the cottage as spotless, immaculate, and very clean, with no negative comments regarding cleanliness. This consistent feedback supports a very high score.

The riverside location is repeatedly praised for its beauty, tranquillity, and proximity to nature and walking routes. While some mention the distance from shops and restaurants, this is generally seen as a positive for those seeking peace and seclusion.

Guests frequently mention the cottage is cosy, comfortable, and warm, even in winter. One review notes the single beds may be small for tall adults, but overall comfort is highly rated.

The cottage is described as well-equipped, with quality furnishings, excellent WiFi, and thoughtful amenities such as kitchen supplies and entertainment options. Only minor issues, such as heating app usage, are mentioned.

Guests appreciate thoughtful touches like nuts for wildlife and, in one case, a birthday card and gift. While these gestures are warmly received, please note that such gifts are not guaranteed for all guests.

Sorry for the local amenities score. But River Cottage is lots of miles away from most amenities. There is a pub and shop in Kirkmichael, the nearest village. But we didn’t use them. Too tired to go out after days walking in forests and doing outdoor stuff. The cottage is lovely. The location, within a couple of metres of the river, is magical. Unfortunately, due to rainy weather we didn’t sit out on the deck. But we did watch the birds and other wildlife, red squirrels and pine marten, coming to the peanut feeder to stock up on free grub. The cottage had everything we needed. Clean, with comfortable beds, good Wi-Fi and Sky TV reception. We had a very enjoyable stay and would recommend River Cottage to people who want a comfortable and characterful base which is properly out in the countryside.

We had a lovely stay at River Cottage. The location is idyllic if you like peace and quiet. It's not completely remote but you really do feel miles from the hustle and bustle. The river location means there is very little noise other than the sound of the wind, water and birds. We took a walk from the front door, through forestry commission land and saw all kinds of birds and a couple of deer. Pitlochry is about 20 minutes away by car, so not too far and there are plenty places to shop and eat out. The cottage was well kitted out and we had what we needed for a weekend break.
