St Margaret’s Hope is a village resting on the island of South Ronaldsay the fourth largest island in the Orkney Isles. St Margaret’s Hope is the third largest settlement after Kirkwall and Stromness. Known locally as the ‘Hope’ or the ‘Hup, the picturesque village is home to around 550 people and is the perfect place to enjoy a stroll. As well as a number of cafes, a post office (where you can stock up on all your essentials) and a hotel, the village is home to the Workshop and Loft Gallery which showcases knitwear and crafts and artwork from local artists. While you are here, pay a visit to the Smiddy Museum which highlights the vital importance of the work of the blacksmith in the village. If golf is more your bag, then why not enjoy a round or two at the nearby 9-hole South Ronaldsay Golf Course? Just west of the village at the Sands O’Wright is the stunning coast at Hoxa Head where you can enjoy breath-taking views of the Scapa Flow. Also nearby are a number of wartime buildings which you can explore and the Hoxa Tapestry Gallery is also worth a visit.

    The flat has been very well refitted and looks very smart. We were in touch house with he kind owners as we had to delay our arrival for a day and fortunately they told us about the Pentland ferry that was out of service.
