Attractive self catering holiday cottage in stunning location on the west side of South Ronaldsay, Orkney. This beautifully renovated, spacious yet homely, farmhouse overlooks Sandwick Bay, a five minute walk away and is in a fantastic location for seal and bird watching. It is surrounded by the owners farmland and is ideal for those seeking a peaceful holiday destination with great opportunities for cycling and walking. The tranquillity allows one to hear the wonderful bird songs throughout the year and there are many interesting walks, craft trails and beautiful beaches in the surrounding area. Inside

Spacious accommodation includes a sitting room with coal fire, TV, DVD, living/dining room, fitted kitchen with all the necessary appliances needed for a stress-free holiday. The living room has a multi-fuel stove and the whole house has oil central heating.

Bedrooms / Bathrooms

There are three bedrooms at the property comprising one double bedroom, one twin bedroom and one bedroom with bunk beds.   There is a downstairs shower room and upstairs there is also an additional shower room with wc and wash hand basin.

Outside

To the exterior, there is a small enclosed garden and also a large lawn area to the front of the property. There is ample parking beside the house.

Towels, bed linen and all fuel are included in the price.  All amenities are within easy access. 

Around and About

The peaceful location provides many opportunities for birdwatching, beach and cliff walking. Last year we had oystercatchers, lapwings, curlews, blackbirds, starlings, larks, meadow pippits and crows all nesting on our property. There are books, brochures, leaflets and recommendations from previous guests to help you plan the holiday you want while based at West Shaird.

Directions

From Stromness drive to Kirkwall and follow signs for South Ronaldsay/Burwick (A961). From St. Margaret's Hope/Gills Bay ferry take the A961, then turn right to Burwick. Follow this road passing garage and take the next right (sign posted Sandwick). The single track road heads towards the bay then turns sharply uphill. You will see West Shaird straight ahead on your right.
