The Isle of Arran is situated in the Firth of Clyde and makes for a fascinating day out, with its 19th Century castle and gardens. Neolithic Machrie Moor Standing Stones and a challenging hike to the peak of the mountain at Goatfell. Head to Kilmarnock and discover lovely country parks, ideal for afternoon stroll, along with riverside walks beside the River Irvine and Kilmarnock Water, which both run through the town, as well as a golf course and a range of shops and restaurants. You can also travel south down the coast towards the town of Ayr, with its scenic, family-friendly beach, while the city of Glasgow is around a 45-minute drive away.
