Arran is a fantastic place to see the second largest fish in the world, the basking shark. Frolicking porpoises and seals are frequent visitors too. This is a natural paradise with sightings of red squirrels, golden eagles, red deer, otters and seals. You can actually join an island safari! We have been to Arran before so knew where the Shieling was located at the North of the island. Lochranza is a quiet location, only busy with traffic when ferry comes and goes (stops around 18:00) so peaceful. Views are fantastic from both front bay windows with seats positioned in each for watching. Had everything we needed. Bed was only a double so didn't suit us but missed that it was stated in details so no reduction in stars given.Air pump heating is brilliant and kept property at comfortable temperature with no need to adjust. Local amenities are scarce, but we did find Lochranza Country Inn a community owned establishment offering fantastic food and drinks. Being developed so doesn't look much from outside, but excellent inside so don't pass.I did think property was a bit pricey for its location but not experienced in this and simply make the comment. All in all we had a great time and would highly recommend the property.

The appartment is all on one level and very comfortable, equipped with all you might need. The best things are the two comfy chairs in the living room window with the view out to sea. The drive in either direction to explore the island is beautiful, and there are buses if you like. We ate at the community owned Country Inn and at The sandwich Station in Lochranza and at The Lighthouse Restaurant in Pirnmill. All good.
