About this property

Tomintoul 4 miles. Tomachlaggan Cottage is an enchanting detached stone-built cottage nestled in a remote setting within the area of Ballindalloch, set within the Caringorms National Parks, teeped in tradition and rustic charm, sleeping up to six people. The property is of very traditional style, built in 1750, with the addition of modern amenities. Arriving at Tomachlaggan Cottage you will approach via a single track road where you will reach a track that will lead you to the cottage through a field. The cottage is located to allow for the perfect country retreat away from all the hustle and bustle, surrounded by sheep in the neighbouring fields. You will arrive to the rear of the property and on approaching the front, your eyes can’t help but soak up the breath taking views of the surrounding hills and open fields. On entering the property the ground floor offers a WC for convenience, a large cosy sitting room with a wood burning stove for those cosy nights to allow you to sit and catch up with your friends and family and hear all about their adventures. This is such a cosy room, and creates a lovely ambience, especially on those long winter nights. Also located on the ground floor is a great sized kitchen with dining space, which houses all modern white goods for your ease. There is a washing machine to allow you to either pack light, or ensure that you are not returning home with a washing pile. Spend your evenings around the kitchen table socialising, and chatting while your supper is bubbling away on the hob, it really is a great room. There is also a good sized double bedroom located on the ground floor. On the upper floor you will find the master bedroom with an en-suite shower room, a family bathroom with a lovely long bath to lie and soak the day away, and another great sized double room with twin beds. No matter which window you look through at Tomachlaggan Cottage you can soak up the surrounding views from every direction; truly breath-taking. With such fantastic views in every direction, enjoy spending time outside on the patio for those al fresco moments, breathing in the peaceful scenery of this fabulous rural area. The Cairngorms National Parks offers a wealth of choice for things to do while you are on holiday. With peaks and hills all around it’s the perfect place for walkers to embark on some new challenges. Located near to the cottage you can find the Bochel, Carn Daimh, & the hills of Cromdale, amongst many other peaks to walk and explore. If you prefer a slightly bigger challenge then you can find Ben Macdui not far from the cottage, a mountain reaching over 4000 ft, with many different trails to lead you to the summit, allowing you to breathe in the stunning views of the area which are truly outstanding and will be sure to take your breath away. The recent addition of the Glenlivet Bike Trails has given new opportunity to mountain bike enthusiasts for all ages and abilities, and have recently been built in the forest near the cottage. Bikes can be hired, or you are able to bring your own, or should you prefer you can enjoy “the Hub” and just sit back, relax and enjoy a cup of coffee and a delicious slice of cake. Landmark Forest Adventure Park is located only a short drive from the cottage, allowing for a fun filled day for all ages. There is a forest activity park, climbing walls, high wire courses, rollercoasters and much more to keep everyone smiling. Located within an hour from Aviemore, if you are looking for additional activities you can find, the MacDonald Activity Centre, Go Karting, The Tree Zone Centre, and Zip Trek Adventure. Tomachlaggan is situated within the Glenlivet Estate on the speyside malt whisky trail, boasting a range of distilleries only a short distance from the cottage. Glenfiddich, Glenlivet, and Macallan are a few that are near by which all offer tours, tastings, and also offer super shops and cafes where you can pick up a souvenir or two from your visit. For those castle hunters, Tomachlaggan is also close to Balmoral, Ballindalloch, and Cawdor to name a few. Why not take the time to visit them and soak in the majestic atmosphere from the architecture and their surrounding gardens. Most recently the area where the cottage is located has been designated “dark sky” status, which allows for the most exceptional view of the stars and planets as there is no light pollution – a real opportunity to experience and appreciate the night skies.
